  • Ongoing philanthropic events, both in-person and virtual

About the Job:

In this role, you’ll manage and execute day-to-day public relations efforts as well as manage client expectations. Senior-level staff also act as a cheerleader for the agency -- suggesting new initiatives for team building, keeping a positive work environment, and mentoring junior-level staff -- and have developed strong relationships with the media.

With a roster of dynamic companies, you will help lead strategy, develop messaging, and leverage media relationships to place compelling narratives that support your client’s vision and mission.

The Director of Impact will need to craft narratives for both consumer and endemic/trade media, with the ability to competently navigate the nuance and goals of speaking with each audience.

The ideal candidate should have some experience working in specific categories related to Impact, which can include but are not limited to: health, wellness, beauty, women’s interest, tech, healthcare, pharma, government affairs, business, leadership, etc. This role will need to pitch both national and regional press on a consistent basis.

Position Reports to: VP of Impact

Core Responsibilities:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop PR strategies and dynamic pitches to meet client objectives and goals, going above and beyond traditional pitching efforts to tailor pitches to specific editors and suggest interesting media activations to support brand objectives.
  • Plan and execute strategies with little to no changes from the VP or Managing Director.
  • Draft press releases as necessary to maintain strategic alignment.

Media Expertise

  • Pitch and secure feature stories, brand stories, and related coverage on a national and regional level across online, print, broadcast, Substack, and podcast media.
  • Monitor for relevant newsjacking opportunities and organize the team in real time to support.
  • Communicate daily with high-level editors and media to build and maintain strong relationships with key editors on an ongoing basis.
  • Staff interviews for clients and founders.

Client Communications

  • Build strong relationships with clients and communicate with them regularly via email, phone, and in person.
  • Oversee and send monthly client reporting, weekly call agendas, and proactive updates to clients about media activity.
  • Update all press-facing and client-facing written materials such as media briefs, face sheets, and related collateral.

Team Management & Development

  • Manage and mentor junior staff to support their professional growth and account excellence.
  • Leverage approved AI tools to streamline research and administrative workflows, improving the speed and consistency of daily tasks while strictly adhering to agency data-privacy protocols and ensuring every AI-generated draft undergoes thorough human fact-checking

Business Growth

  • Manage internal JBC initiatives and activities, including company-wide pitching.
  • Brainstorm and present unique opportunities to continue to elevate JBC’s profile within the industry.

About You:

Ideal Profile

  • A clear vision of the evolving healthcare industry and competitive landscape
  • Naturally proactive, with outstanding attention to detail and meticulous organizational skills
  • A people person, skilled at collaboration, building and nurturing relationships, with proven experience in supportive team management
  • Skilled writer and communicator
  • Ability to both balance many priorities and act resourcefully, all while maintaining a positive attitude

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 6-7+ years of PR experience with significant agency experience, depending on level
  • A strong editorial network of social impact and business editors and writers (specifically in the women’s wellness and parent interest space)
  • Vaccination against COVID-19 is a requirement if hired. Candidates may request an accommodation due to disability, sincerely held religious belief or exception required under applicable law.

Benefits:

JBC is committed to the health, happiness, and well-being of each and every one of our employees, both professionally and personally. We strive to make our workplace one where team members are not only supported across their short- and long-term trajectory of career growth but are also fulfilled as people, in and out of the office.

Our benefits include, but are not limited to:

  • Flexible paid time off policy, including vacation + additional paid caregiver leave
  • 4-day workweeks in the Summer and early closures on Fridays, Fall through Spring
  • 12 weeks paid leave to bond with a newly born, adopted, or fostered child, with a 6-month waiting period for full-time employees
  • Inclusive holiday calendar and a paid break in December, running from Christmas Eve to New Year's Day
  • Comprehensive health insurance for all employees, and a 401k matching plan for you to invest in your future
  • In-house committees that plan monthly programming as it relates to internships, team-building, community service, employee recognition, and more
  • Monthly stipend toward cell phone
  • Flexible working schedules and a hybrid in-office schedule with Fridays always remote

  • Generous bereavement leave policy, including pregnancy loss
  • Agency-wide Mental Health Days
