Investment Banking Analyst – Municipals (Public Finance)

Locations: New York, NY OR Los Angeles, CA

Coverage Focus: Midwest issuers and governmental entities

Overview

The Municipals Investment Banking team is seeking a highly motivated Analyst to support senior bankers covering Midwest western state and local government issuers. The Analyst will work closely with an experienced Managing Director and broader deal team, providing analytical, marketing, and transaction execution support across a wide range of public finance transactions, including general obligation bonds, higher education bonds, airport and other transportation bonds, public private partnerships financings, and other unique municipal financings.

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution of municipal bond transactions from origination through closing
  • Prepare and analyze financial models, debt profiles, and tax-supported and revenue-backed credit metrics
  • Assist in the creation of pitch materials, presentations, and client-facing marketing materials
  • Conduct issuer, industry, and market research, including analysis of capital markets conditions and comparable transactions
  • Draft transaction materials, including offering documents, rating agency presentations, and pricing analyses
  • Coordinate with internal partners (sales & trading, syndicate, capital markets) and external parties (issuers, financial advisors, legal counsel, rating agencies)
  • Monitor transactions throughout the approval, documentation, and closing processes
  • Provide ongoing support to the western coverage effort while being based in New York or Los Angeles

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with strong academic performance
  • 6 months –2 years of relevant experience in investment banking, public finance, capital markets, or financial advisory related fields
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and financial modeling skills
  • Proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated interest in public finance and municipal capital markets
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
