r****Special Information****

  • This position is a remote position which allows the incumbent to

complete their work at a location other than an NAU site, campus, or

facility with or without accommodation. The incumbent may

occasionally work in a shared site, but primarily will work

elsewhere.

  • This position is subject to the availability of funding. The

incumbent is not eligible for Service Professional non-renewal

notice, or Classified Staff layoff or recall status.

  • This position is posted as GED/HSE Math Tutor (Part-Time Temporary),

which is a working title. The NAU system title for this position is

Part-Time Temporary.

****About the Department/College****

NAU Educational Opportunity Centers is a federally funded TRIO program.

EOC provides counseling and support, from GED preparation and college

admissions to qualified adults who want to enter or continue a

postsecondary education program. We provide services to improve

participants\' financial and economic literacy in 1:1 meetings or

through workshops. The EOC program aims to increase the number of adult

participants (19 years and older) who enroll in postsecondary education

institutions. EOC is available in Coconino, Yavapai, Apache, Navajo, and

Mohave counties, as well as NAU Statewide locations.

EOC is 100% grant funded by the US Department of Education. \$536,872.00

has been approved for our current grant year. We are not funded by any

non-governmental agencies.

**About the Position**

The HSE Math Tutor will provide academic support to Educational

Opportunity Center (EOC) participants enrolled in GED or High School

Equivalency (HSE) programs at CCC, MC, YC, or NPC. This role focuses

specifically on Mathematical Reasoning, which is often the most

challenging and final exam for HSE participants. The instructor will

deliver evening workshops and individual tutoring to support adult

learners in completing the HSE math test.

**Responsibilities Include**

95% -Instructional & Student Support

  • Provide one-on-one 1-hour tutoring sessions via Zoom throughout the

week.

  • Facilitate evening remote math workshops (6:00-8:00 p.m.,

Monday-Thursday) May 18th- August 25th focused on foundational math

through a provided HSE workbook along with individual tutoring

sessions.

  • Track participant attendance, participation frequency, location, and

cancellation.

  • Support students with basic Zoom navigation as needed (screen

sharing, microphone use, recording sessions, whiteboard use, etc.).

  • Coordinate scheduling using Calendly.

5% - Other duties as assigned

**Minimum Qualifications**

  • Bachelor\'s degree in mathematics, Education, Engineering, or

teaching/tutoring experience in Mathematics.

  • Experience teaching or tutoring math, preferably with adult

learners, or HSE/GED students.

  • \*A combination of related education, experience, and training may be

used as an equivalent to the above Minimum Qualifications.*

**Preferred Qualifications**

  • Experience working with low-income and first-generation adult

learners.

  • Experience using Zoom for instruction, presentations, and

interactive tools.

  • Experience using Calendly.

**Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities**

  • Reliable internet access and the ability to work remotely
  • Knowledge of how socioeconomic factors affect college access,

persistence, and completion

  • Ability to apply an understanding of socioeconomic barriers when

advising or supporting students

  • Ability to clearly simplify and explain mathematical concepts
  • Strong patience and empathy wh n working with adults who struggle

with math

  • Welcoming, encouraging, and highly patient.
  • Understand that many adult learners feel vulnerable or discouraged

when facing math challenges and are committed to creating a

supportive, nonjudgmental learning environment.

  • Flexible and responsive to changing student needs across our partner

regions, including Coconino, Yavapai, Mohave, and NPC service areas.

****Compensation****

Hourly Rate is \$20.00 - \$22.00. Annual salary commensurate with

candidate\'s qualifications and related experience.

**Pre-Employment Check**

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the

following: a criminal background investigation, an employment history

verification and a degree verification (in some cases) prior to

employment. You may also be required to complete a fingerprint

background check. Also, as an employer in the state of Arizona, NAU is

required to participate in the federal E-Verify program that assists

States.
