POSITION SUMMARY

Heatscape, LLC is a private equity-sponsored lower middle market company seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Controller to serve as a key member of the finance and accounting leadership team. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will be responsible for all aspects of accounting operations, financial reporting, and internal controls. This individual will play a critical role in supporting the company’s growth strategy, including the integration of M&A targets and the migration to common systems and platforms. The Controller will directly oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll functions.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting    

  • Oversee and manage all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and fixed assets.
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
  • Build and maintain advanced Excel-based financial models, reports, and analysis tools; leverage keyboard shortcuts and automation to drive efficiency and minimize manual error.
  • Manage the month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and variance analysis.
  • Maintain and strengthen the company’s chart of accounts, accounting policies, and internal control framework.
  • Coordinate with external auditors, tax advisors, and lenders as required.


PE Sponsor & CFO Support

  • Prepare and deliver timely financial reporting packages to the CFO, including KPI dashboards and management reporting.
  • Support the CFO in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of board materials and investor reporting.
  • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and decision support as needed.

 

M&A Integration & Consolidation

  • Assist with accounting integration activities for acquired businesses, including opening balance sheet adjustments, purchase price allocations, and consolidation of financial statements.
  • Develop and implement integration playbooks for accounting and finance functions of acquired entities.
  • Identify and resolve accounting differences between acquired entities and Heatscape’s policies and standards.

 

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Drive the migration of acquired entities and existing operations onto common ERP and financial platforms.
  • Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, automation, and reporting efficiency.
  • Serve as a key internal stakeholder in system implementations and upgrades.

 

Team Leadership

  • Directly supervise and develop AR, AP, and Payroll staff, providing coaching, performance feedback, and professional development support.
  • Build a high-performing accounting team capable of scaling with the company’s growth.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, accuracy, and continuous improvement within the finance function.


QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA license (active or inactive) strongly preferred.
  • 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a controller or senior accounting management role.
  • Hands-on experience leading or participating in ERP implementations or system migrations.
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and internal controls best practices.
  • Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Enterprise, or similar).
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including complex formulas, pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and financial modeling; demonstrated use of keyboard shortcuts and hotkeys to maximize productivity.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with a track record of producing accurate, error-free financial deliverables under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

 

 Preferred

  • Experience in manufacturing, distribution, or specialty services industries.
  • Familiarity with multi-entity consolidations and intercompany eliminations.
  • Prior experience working directly with private equity sponsors and managing lender reporting requirements.
  • Experience in a PE-backed, lower middle market company environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with M&A accounting, purchase price allocations, and consolidated financial statements.
