Qualifications

Education and Experience: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor's degree and experience equivalent to one year of full-time professional experience that primarily involved providing or coordinating veteran staffing or outreach services.

Substitution of Experience for Education: Military experience as a commissioned officer or as a noncommissioned officer with the rank of E-5 or higher, may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of four years.

OR

One year of full-time experience as a Veterans' Employment Representative or Veterans' Outreach Specialist as defined by the VETS Program.

Necessary Special Qualifications

  • Possession of a valid vehicle operator's license may be required for some positions.
  • In compliance with United States Code Annotated, Title 38, Chapter 41, Section 4103A, and 4104, the State of Tennessee must fill positions in this class with eligible veterans and must give preference to eligible veterans with disabilities.
  • Must be able to provide DD214 member 4 copy or similar version and a copy of civil service preference letter identifying service-connected disability rating.

Overview

Under general supervision, is responsible for connecting with community partners and employers to raise awareness about state workforce programs that help reduce job barriers for veterans and other eligible individuals.

Responsibilities

  • An employee in this class learns to receive referrals to conduct personal interviews with veterans and other eligible persons with qualifying employment barriers.
  • Learns to receive referrals and provide individualized career services through the case management framework, conducting comprehensive assessments, developing employment plans, and maintaining consistent contact to assist veterans and other eligible persons to overcome barriers to employment.
  • Learns to conduct outreach through networking with local service providers to maximize the number of participants referred to the American Job Centers who have qualifying employment barriers.
  • Learns combined functions of integrating business partners workforce delivery platform and ensuring partners are aware of case management information technology on veterans and eligible persons.
  • Learns to be an advocate for the hiring of all veterans and additional populations as determined by the U.S. Department of Labor, Veterans Employment and Training Service (DOL-VETS).
  • Learns to provide outreach activities with business, industry, and other community-based organizations by planning, conducting, and participating in job and career fairs, facility tours, assisting in job development, facilitating job search workshops/groups, working with established unions, apprenticeship programs, and inform federal contractors of the process to recruit qualified veterans.
  • Learns to coordinate and participate with partner efforts of the American Job Center business service representatives; educating and training American Job Center staff with current veterans' employment initiatives and programs.
  • All other required duties as assigned.

TN Driver Standards
