About the Role: The Albany Office of New York State Governor Kathy Hochul is seeking Communications Interns for the Fall '26- Spring '27 term. Interns should have some prior knowledge and experience working with communications materials. Interns will have the opportunity to hone research and writing skills, strengthen communication skills, participate in event coordination and preparation, improve networking skills, and apply skills to address real-world issues.
Responsibilities:
- Working closely with the Deputy Press Secretaries and Press Assistants to execute effective communication strategies that promote the Governor’s agenda;
- Provides support for press releases, transcribing remarks, pitching stories to a statewide media market, and research/media engagement tasks.
- Compiles media coverage and news briefings from the Governor’s events; and
- Performs other related duties as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Have an interest in politics, public policy, public administration, communications, press affairs, or legislative affairs;
- Have interest in New York State and Governor Hochul’s administration;
- Possess a strong work ethic and take initiative;
- Have the ability to problem solve and be resourceful;
- Be capable of multi-tasking while being very detail-oriented;
- Have excellent communication and organizational skills;
- Be a strong writer with a proficiency in AP Style;
- Be adept with Google programs;
- Possess both teamwork and interpersonal skills.
Requirements:
- Residency: must be either a New York State resident or currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at an accredited college or university in New York State.
- Education: must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a degree-granting college or university. You must have at least Sophomore standing if you are enrolled in an undergraduate program.
