Job Summary
The Cellar Supervisor is responsible for the direct supervision and coordination of cellar, barrel, crush, fermentation, and sanitation operations. This role ensures all activities are executed in accordance with winemaking standards, safety requirements, and operational policies to achieve production goals, quality standards, and efficiency targets. The Supervisor leads daily operations, manages staffing and training, ensures compliance with safety and regulatory programs, and drives continuous improvement. This position also serves as a backup to senior operations leadership and may perform cellar operations as needed.
Essential Functions
Plan, prioritize, and supervise daily cellar, barrel, crush, fermentation, and sanitation activities.
Coordinate staffing, scheduling, and timekeeping while optimizing labor utilization.
Schedule team members efficiently and manage timecards according to HR policy.
Coordinate and Train employees on SOPs and hold team accountable for performance and quality standards.
Ensure accurate production logs, reports, and process tracking systems are maintained.
Update and maintain operating procedures and training materials.
Identify and implement process and equipment improvements for efficiency and quality.
Coordinate repairs and preventive maintenance with maintenance teams.
Facilitate the proper receiving, inspecting, and storage of materials and equipment.
Ensure adherence to all safety programs, policies, and regulatory requirements.
Train staff on PPE, safety procedures, and hazardous material handling.
Support incident reporting, investigation, and corrective actions.
Maintain sanitation standards across all production, equipment, and storage areas.
Operate within departmental budget constraints and support cost control initiatives.
Monitor headcount and recommend staffing adjustments based on production needs.
Maintain inventory of supplies, chemicals, additives, and barrels.
Ensure availability of materials to meet production demands.
Supervise, train, coach, and develop cellar staff.
Monitor performance, manage discipline, and ensure accountability.
Promote teamwork, communication, and a safe work culture.
Serve as a mentor and role model aligned with organizational values.
Work closely with winemaking, lab, maintenance, HR, and operations teams.
Communicate production status, priorities, and risks effectively.
Support execution of winemaking plans and production schedules.
Qualifications
Must be 18 years or older at time of hire.
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Possess at least 3 years of experience working within a winery.
5 – 7 years of supervisory experience, ideally in a production environment.
Proficient in MS Office and knowledge JDE application preferred.
Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills with attention to detail.
Ability to set priorities and work independently within set guidelines.
Upon assignment, the Company may require First Aid, CPR, AED, Emergency Responder, and/or other certifications, as necessary.
Strong knowledge of production/manufacturing operations.
Provide good verbal and written communications to all levels of management, both internally and externally.
Prioritize while able to adapt to changing priorities.
Demonstrated reliability and punctuality, work effectively in team/crew environment, adherence to all safety regulations and operating procedures.
Physical Demands
Primary work environment is on the production floor.
Position will be exposed to indoor and outdoor environments with varying noise levels.
Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, standing, and twisting in a production environment.
Occasionally lift up to 50lbs.
Compensation
Hiring Salary Range Posted: $70,304 - $104,000.
Actual compensation will be based on factors such as experience, skills, knowledge, and abilities, education, and other position-related factors.
