CIOs, your IT team shipped a project on time and under budget. Congratulations. Nobody cares. Because nobody's using it... Swiss Federal Government learned this the hard way with their graph database. Perfect technical implementation, CHECK Zero adoption, CHECK Why? Because "successful deployment" and "actual usage" are completely different  metrics. Their mistake: Building for the most technical person in the room. The people who needed the data weren't developers or data scientists. They were analysts, domain specialists and project managers. People who speak human, not SPARQL. So we wrapped their database in ChatGPT. Now those same users can ask questions in plain language and get instant answers. The database didn't change. The barrier did. The underlying problem: Companies measure success by "Did we build it?" When they should ask "Are they using it?" Your IT scorecard says 100% delivery. Your user adoption says 0%. Which number matters more to your business?

instead of live-coding, we practiced live-releasing: During last weeks' iSAQB® – International Software Architecture Qualification Board Meetup in Frankfurt/Main, Ralf D. Müller and myself started the #arc42 build process during our talk (see top-left corner of the screen), with a rather fancy dual-computer+hdmi-mixer setup... What has changed: Tiny wording improvements, inclusion of the Q42 quality model, a new overview graphic for the crosscutting concepts. Otherwise we kept the consistent and established structure to remain fully backwards compatible. Thanx to Peter Hruschka for a few night-sessions to update DE and EN, thanx to our contributors for proving translation support.

Last week, my colleague Michael Kwok, Ph.D., Vice President, IBM watsonx Code Assistant, and Canada Lab Director Lab, Isabell Sippli, Stephan Laertz and myself kicked off the first 💙 German Bob-a-thon 💙 , a one-day coding challenge with 180 participants at our IBM Technology Campus in Ehningen, south of Stuttgart! In recent months, IBM Bob has attracted a lot of attention in- and outside of IBM. It's not just another coding assistant, but an AI development partner. Co-developed by our very own German software development team, Bob is a tool that understands developers intents, the codebase, and the organization's standards required to run successful and safe code. Jukka Juselius speaking words of wisdom! The more benefits we want to get out of AI the more we need to empower #AI to execute tasks for us. The biggest inhibitor is lack of trust in #AI. To be able to trust #AI we need to be able to efficiently #orchestrate Agents and we need to be able to #govern the Agents in a reliable way.

Yet another release for data transforms. Lots of new features, but there are two that I am personally quite excited about Full support for Fusion applications. In just a few clicks, you can get an full application module loaded into Autonomous database - and keep it in sync on a periodic basis. Support for materialized views - as a way to handle change data capture and incremental processing. No need to maintain high-water marks, or figure how to use change data to get the results you want. Define the flow semantically and have it just work.

Open source AI speaks 1,000 languages - from the Swiss Alps A groundbreaking collaboration between EPFL and ETH Zurich is set to reshape the AI landscape with their new open source language model. Trained on the Alps supercomputer at CSCS, this model handles an impressive array of over 1,000 languages, offering versions with 8 billion and 70 billion parameters. What sets this initiative apart is its unwavering commitment to transparency. The entire project - from source code to training data - will be openly available, adhering to Swiss data protection standards and EU AI Act requirements. This public institution-led development demonstrates how AI innovation can prioritize societal benefit while maintaining rigorous technical standards.
