BAE delivered a strong second-half 2025 performance, reaffirming its upgraded full-year guidance and signalling sustained momentum across key defence programmes. Orders surpassed £27bn, including a £4bn Typhoon deal with Türkiye, $3.3bn in U.S. electronic systems awards, $1.7bn in funding for US combat vehicle production, and £1.1bn for MBDA. The company expects 2025 sales growth of 8–10%, EBIT up 9–11%, EPS up 8–10%, and free cash flow above £1.1bn. CEO Charles Woodburn highlighted robust demand from NATO partners, significant growth opportunities in space, electronic warfare, and maritime systems, and confidence in long-term defence spending trends. Supported by a strong balance sheet, BAE is maintaining disciplined capital allocation—investing for growth, pursuing strategic acquisitions, and returning approximately £1.5bn to shareholders through dividends and buybacks. With rising geopolitical tensions, solid backlog visibility, and alignment with key national defence strategies, BAE Systems remains well-positioned for sustained earnings growth and cash generation, reinforcing its appeal as a resilient, growth-focused defence investment. France’s Dassault Rafale is set to win a fourth European contract, potentially surpassing the U.S. F-35 as Europe prioritises defence autonomy. Portugal is reportedly leaning toward the Rafale amid delays in F-35 deliveries and cost concerns. Championed by President Macron, the Rafale offers advanced multirole capabilities, full technology transfer, and independence from U.S. export controls - advantages appealing to nations seeking strategic sovereignty. The deal, worth over €5 billion, could modernise Portugal’s air fleet, boost France’s defence industry, and mark a turning point for European defence cooperation, reducing reliance on U.S. systems while strengthening the continent’s industrial and military self-sufficiency. (aeronewsjournal) (+) Rheinmetall:  RHM offers the KF51 Panther MBT to Romania. German defence giant Rheinmetall has offered its KF51 Panther main battle tank to Romania as part of the country’s plan to modernise its armoured forces. Romania aims to acquire 216 new tanks to replace Soviet-era models. It has already ordered 54 M1A2 Abrams tanks from the US. Rheinmetall’s proposal targets the larger second procurement phase, emphasising local production and industrial cooperation. The KF51 Panther, unveiled in 2022, features a 130mm gun, advanced protection systems, digital architecture, and optional loitering munitions. Rheinmetall’s expanding Romanian presence may strengthen its bid for this multi-billion-euro contract. (Defence Today)

QinetiQ announced its H1 results this morning: QinetiQ delivered a resilient first-half performance despite challenging market conditions, supported by strong order momentum and strategic contract wins. The company secured a record £2.4bn in orders, including a £1.5bn Long-Term Partnering Agreement (LTPA) extension with the UK Ministry of Defence through 2033, reinforcing its role in next-generation defence capabilities. Revenue declined 3% organically to £900m due to delayed UK orders and currency headwinds, while operating margins remained solid at 10.7% and cash conversion was strong at 85%. The £4.8bn order backlog and £11bn qualified pipeline underpin long-term visibility. Strategic restructuring in the U.S. improved focus on high-growth areas such as space, missile defence, sensors, and surveillance, with the sale of the Federal IT business streamlining operations. QinetiQ’s balance sheet remains strong with 0.6x leverage, supporting further buybacks and targeted acquisitions. FY26 guidance is unchanged, with 3% organic revenue growth, 11% margins, 15–20% EPS growth, and c.90% cash conversion expected. (RNS)

Interest in the UK’s aerospace and defence supply chain remains strong, particularly for specialist electronics and sensor capability. SDI Group’s acquisition of PRP Optoelectronics is the latest example: PRP designs and manufactures custom optoelectronic components used in demanding aerospace and defence applications. This kind of niche, IP-rich capability often sits several tiers down the supply chain, but is critical to overall system performance. The UK continues to produce a steady pipeline of these technically strong SMEs. What we’re seeing now is sustained strategic interest in integrating that capability into broader engineering platforms. For many smaller firms, consolidation by larger firms addresses the key issues these specialist producers face: scaling production, navigating procurement complexity, and managing an increasingly embedded regulatory environment, with the help of deeper capital resources, superior compliance infrastructure, and greater customer access. Great conversations the last 2 days at the Paris Air Show - many around the future of Commercial Aerospace and the uncertainty around NGSA. Major implications for the supply base as a staggering 81% of respondents in our recent Aviation Week survey don't believe they will meet the 2026 and 2027 production targets for the next-generation single-aisle (NGSA) aircraft. 🔹Delayed Entry into Service (EIS): The NGSA program is facing potential delays, which could exacerbate the financial strain. 🔹Efficiency vs. Cost: While a 12% increase in fuel efficiency is a positive step, it is overshadowed by the projected 30% rise in production costs. 🔹Economic Hurdles: The high development costs, estimated at up to $25 billion, and the lengthy payback period of ten to 12 years are significant barriers.
