The Prince William County Board of Supervisors wants to diversify the county's tax base away from data centres. Listening to the planning meeting last night, the tone was almost hostile at points from local officials, making one thing clear - Northern Virginia is by no means the slam dunk it once was for hyperscale data centre development. Granted, part of the reason that STACK Infrastructure's Bristow Campus was denied was partly due to it being outside of the data centre opportunity zone, but the four supervisors who voted against the project all spoke to PW County's new priorities: - Affordable housing for working families - Long-term local employment that isn't associated with data centre construction - Attracting more diverse industry, - And building a neighbourhood that people actually want to live in, rather than be neighbours to an uncontrolled sprawl of data centre buildings. The conversation on stablecoins is global but the solutions must be local. Africa’s financial systems come with unique realities. There is the inconsistent infrastructure, fragmented policy environments, high remittance dependence, large informal markets, and currency volatility. For stablecoins to create meaningful impact, we must design with these realities at the centre. African-first stablecoin solutions must prioritize: 🔹 On/off-ramps that actually work 🔹 User experiences built for low-data environments 🔹 Interoperability with local rails 🔹 Regulatory transparency 🔹 Education that simplifies, not complicates,digital finance 🔹 Trust because adoption follows confidence Global models are useful references, but they can’t replace context. Africa needs solutions built for Africans. Founders of venture-backed U.S. startups are rethinking hiring plans following the imposition of the whopping new fee on H-1B visa petitions. Some founders expect to bring on foreign workers remotely or to rely more on international offices. Among well-funded companies, some aren’t ruling out paying the high fee in rare cases. Yuliya Chernova reports. Venture investors worry that immigration roadblocks will deter foreigners from starting companies in the U.S. and otherwise push global talent overseas.
