  • Our very own Lulu Zapata is nominated for the Chris Kindness Award - celebrating everyday heroes who make our community shine! Each month, the Chris Kindness organization awards $1000 to local individuals who lead with heart and inspire us all to spread more kindness. Vote for Lulu and help her win this achievement! Lulu is a beacon of kindness at the Berkeley Y. Her Women on Weights classes have amassed a devoted following and cultivated a devoted community, empowering women of all ages to build strength and comfort in the weight room, one lift at a time! She is generous with her time and her knowledge, going above and beyond to welcome and inspire everyone from grandmothers to teens. "Thank you, Lulu for making such an impact for so many of us. • We are deeply grateful to Interactive Resources for sponsoring a staff appreciation luncheon for the Richmond Parkway YMCA Early Learning Center on Friday, December 19, 2025. Their generosity extended even further by providing a book for every child at the center, reinforcing a shared commitment to learning and community impact.   Thank you for your continued partnership with the YMCA of the East Bay and for investing in our staff and families.

  • Every year, former South Y student Pearl Brown gathers volunteers and supplies to bring Thanksgiving meals to families from around the Berkeley area. In year 16 of the drive, the team of volunteers helped give 200 families a festive and joyful Thanksgiving. We're so thankful to Genentech, Pearline (Pearl) Brown, all of our volunteers and the team at South Y for another successful year of supporting our community.
