The Y‑12 National Security Complex plays a vital role in the U.S. Department of Energy’s Nuclear Security Enterprise. Y-12 provides manufacturing, technical, and scientific expertise to produce components, subassemblies, and quality evaluations to sustain a U.S. nuclear deterrent; reduce the threat from weapons of mass destruction; supply nuclear material to the Naval Reactors Program; and provide solutions to other emerging national security challenges.

CNS was well represented at the Men of Tomorrow Program annual dinner. The organization provides support and development to minority male and female students in grades 6-12. Between a CNS contribution and Y-12 employee giving, late Y-12er Edwena Crowe was memorialized with more than $10,000 in gifts toward the organization’s scholarship fund. #CNSCares

Apprentice electrician DJ gained a new appreciation for Y-12 after he was hired in December 2024. He knew working at the plant was a good job opportunity; what he didn’t expect was just how quickly he would feel that the work was more than a job. By awarding the grant, CNS hopes to foster opportunities for teachers to advance STEM activities in the classroom and develop our future workforce. Y-12 Global Security Analysis and Training staff recently conducted a radioactive source removal in Brazil. This is the seventh removal that Y-12 has successfully completed in Brazil since 2024. The source was transported from a hospital to an in-country secure storage facility. This work furthers the mission of the Office of Defense Nuclear Nonproliferation within the Department of Energy’s National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) and accomplishes permanent risk reduction.
