AI has already changed many aspects of our lives and work. It has caused some people to lose their jobs, but it has also greatly improved productivity for many others. As a hardware engineer, most of my software experience has been around hardware validation, automation testing, and building simple test systems. Strictly speaking, I am not a professional software or firmware engineer. But recently, I built an asset tracker based on the Particle MSOM. In this project, I let Codex take over most of the firmware development. Throughout the process, I still had to provide the hardware debugging direction, system architecture decisions, and engineering judgment. But the reality is: I barely wrote any firmware code myself. Codex completed the firmware development and also generated a web page that can be used to demonstrate the tracker. That was the moment I strongly realized: AI is truly lowering the barrier to technical implementation. It is giving more people the opportunity to turn the ideas in their minds into real systems that can run, be validated, and continue moving toward productization. I will also turn this project into a more complete Hackster project. It will not only show the final result, but also document the hardware architecture, firmware development, AI collaboration process, and final demo. To me, this project is more like an experiment in how a hardware engineer can use AI to push an idea closer to reality. Worried about an aging sump pump? Retired electrical engineer Scott McNabb built a smart solution with a Particle Photon 2 to keep his basement safe from unexpected flooding. His monitoring system tracks water levels in the sump pit, logs data to an SD card, and sends immediate email alerts if an issue arises. 🌧️📩 A great low-cost project to a potentially expensive problem!

We got the award. Our customers did the work. Alert Labs has been named a winner in the 2026 Digi International Green Tech Awards, Smart Sensing and Control category. The recognition is based on what AlertAQ™ has delivered across 14,000+ buildings in North America: 🟠 15 billion+ gallons of water conserved 🟠 163,000 metric tonnes of CO2e prevented Those numbers belong to the facility directors, property managers, and building engineers who deployed sensors, acted on alerts, and built the habits. The hardware and AI gave them more insight and they did the rest. Proud to be recognized alongside Hexagon AB, RAB Lighting, XiO, Inc. Water, and Radius Synergies International Pvt. Ltd. in this year's awards. And grateful to Digi International for the honor. Read more: https://lnkd.in/emsBQRPU #Sustainability #WaterManagement #FacilityManagement #EarthDay #IoT

With the rise of large language models, voice control has become more reliable than ever. This project shows how to build a smart system (like a greenhouse controller) that you can operate with spoken commands using a Particle M-HAT and a Raspberry Pi. It records what you say, transcribes it with a local LLM, interprets the intent, and updates settings (such as temperature, fan, and lights) accordingly — even without Wi-Fi thanks to LTE connectivity. The device state is also synced to the cloud via Particle Ledger so you can monitor or interact remotely.
