American candidate: “How much is the salary?” Italian recruiter looking at me: “Did he just ask about compensation? At the second interview?” One thing I still struggle to understand is why some companies feel entitled to keep a candidate's salary hidden during the interview process. By the second round, that person has already invested time. Probably taken time off work. Prepared for the interview. Adjusted the schedule around yours. A job interview is, first of all, a #negotiation. (in the United States, and everywhere) So when a candidate asks about compensation, they are not being pretentious. They are trying to understand whether the opportunity makes sense before investing even more time. Treating salary as an inappropriate question creates an odd imbalance: the company is allowed to evaluate the candidate, but the candidate is somehow expected not to evaluate the company back. #Hiring #CandidateExperience

I’m #hiring for a Sales Manager in the South Bay (CA). Our client is a single-label distributor of high-end #ItalianFood, serving restaurants, hotels, and food service distributors across the U.S. The role focuses on business development, account growth, and direct sales within the hospitality channel. If this sounds like your background, you can find all the details and apply via the link in the comments.

A judge just allowed a discrimination lawsuit against Workday to move forward. The case, Mobley v. Workday, Inc., argues that automated screening tools may exclude candidates because of age. (In simple terms: the software may filter out older applicants.) The court has not ruled on whether discrimination actually happened. But it allowed the claim to proceed. Most companies rely on ATS platforms to handle large volumes of applications. That’s no secret. And I use an ATS too. But I have a personal rule: I review every resume myself. Because behind every application there is a person. (Yes, I spend hours personally screening resumes.) If you are 40 or older and received a rejection after applying for a job through Workday, you may be eligible to join the lawsuit. I’m sharing the official notice and consent form in the comments.

  • Francesca Cavallari and Giacomo Bizzotto are in Vegas this week for #PizzaExpo. They’re having the usual conversations behind the booths. Not about pizza. About what happens after: ↳ who do you hire here ↳ how do you build a presence ↳ what does “being in the U.S.” mean for your business Because a trade show can give you contacts, but it won’t build your team for you. If you’re in Vegas, they’re around! #TalentAcquisition #Headhunting

When a company relocates someone to the US, two people move. One arrives with a job. The other arrives with a work permit and nothing else. A few months later, the question comes: “Can you help my partner find a job?” #Relocation quite often affects two careers. But most companies plan for only one. If you relocate international talent, supporting both careers is not a nice gesture. It’s a retention strategy. #TalentRetention #Wetalentia #ExpatLife
