Police in Washington, D.C., are seeking the public’s help in identifying a man seen in video footage throwing a beer keg through a window of Georgetown Cupcake. The incident occurred at a Georgetown Cupcake store on M Street and caused around $10,000 in damage, police said. “People were inside and scared,” the bakery's owners said. “That level of disregard for others is shocking. This isn’t just property damage; it’s reckless, dangerous, and completely unacceptable behavior that could have seriously hurt someone.”

I sure don't want to watch 50 hours of sports. So, our AI tool watched it all. The AI counted every single reference to gambling in fifty hour-long segments from fifty football, basketball and hockey games. Sports gambling is truly EVERYWHERE in sports these days. Every game of the fifty had an ad, promotion or other reference, and more than one in four minutes of sports overall referenced gambling at least once. One sport had the most gambling ads, by far -- but for other sports, the broadcaster played a huge role. Read the story to learn what they are. New from me, Jonathan O'Connell and Luke Connors and a bunch of other colleagues.

Stephen Colbert's "The Late Show" airs its final episode Thursday, and I've been thinking a lot about the end of this show: How this franchise was born at the height of late-night, the circumstances surrounding its cancellation, its replacement (a non-topical comedy show airing via a time buy!) and, in the midst of it all, the explosion of the celebrity-hosted video podcast. All of this may tell us a thing or two about the future of this decidedly old-school format, and what could come in its wake. So I dug into it all for The Washington Post: https://lnkd.in/eY4sBjja

Iranian airstrikes have damaged or destroyed at least 228 structures across bases or sites used by the U.S. military since the war began, hitting hangars, barracks, fuel depots, aircraft, and key radar, communications and air defense equipment, according to a Post analysis of satellite imagery. The amount of destruction is far larger than what has been acknowledged by the U.S. government or previously reported. For this examination, The Post reviewed more than 100 high-resolution Iranian-released satellite images. The Post verified the authenticity of 109 of those images by comparing them with lower-resolution imagery from the European Union’s satellite system, Copernicus, as well as high-resolution images from Planet, a major U.S. commercial provider, when available. A military spokesperson disputed the characterization of base damage by experts as extensive or evidence of failures, saying assessments of destruction are complex and can be misleading in some cases, but declined to provide specifics.
