Still thinking about how wonderful our Golf Outing was⛳ On April 20, we hosted our third Charity Golf Outing in support of our Community Health Scholarship. Over 90 golfers participated and every dollar raised on the day went directly to scholarship funding. Beautiful weather and an incredible cause - can't ask for better than that! Couldn't make it? Want to relive it? Photos from the event are available now!⤵️ 📸https://lnkd.in/e_pyexw8

Congratulations Rockbridge Area Health Center!
We are proud to announce that the Virginia Department of Health has selected Rockbridge Area Health Center as one of the inaugural Perinatal Health Hub Pilot Program organizations in the Commonwealth, chosen from a competitive field of 40 applicants statewide. This recognition is the beginning of a significant new chapter for maternal and infant health in Rockbridge County. The VDH Perinatal Health Hubs Pilot Program is backed by $2.5 million in state funding under the 2025 Virginia Acts of Assembly, with two-year grants awarded to a small group of community-based organizations to reduce maternal and infant mortality across Virginia. Being selected from 40 applicants reflects the strength of what RAHC has built and the depth of need in the community we serve. Rockbridge County is a documented perinatal care desert. There is no local birthing hospital. Infant mortality, preterm birth rates, and late or no prenatal care in our region exceed state averages. These are the conditions that drove us to develop Strong Starts and that made this application compelling. In the coming months, RAHC will be launching Strong Starts, our Perinatal Health Hub program, a coordinated, team-based model that will provide prenatal care, behavioral health services, care coordination, postpartum support, and material assistance to families in Rockbridge County from early pregnancy through the baby's first year. The program is in development now and will be kicking off in the months ahead. We are grateful to the Virginia Department of Health for this opportunity, to our community partners and donors whose support made this possible, and to the RAHC team whose commitment to this community made us a competitive candidate among organizations from across the Commonwealth. This is what it looks like when a rural Federally Qualified Health Center invests in the future of its community. We are proud to carry this work forward, and we look forward to sharing more as Strong Starts takes shape. Stay tuned for more updates and news about our future programming and services. Last week, VCHA was proud to bring stakeholders from around Virginia together for an important discussion on the intersection of nutrition and health: the Food As Medicine Summit. The Summit began with a visit to Greenswell Growers, a Richmond-area indoor growing facility dedicated to large-scale hydroponic farming of lettuce and greens. Summit attendees spoke with Greenswell CEO Carl Gupton and toured the facility with Head Grower Gus Brennan, learning more about hydroponic processes and impact. Attendees then returned to VCHA for presentations, hearing from: Kofi Essel, MD, MPH, FAAP, Food as Medicine Director at Elevance Health Eddie Oliver, Executive Director of Federation of Virginia Food Banks Maria Bowman, MPH, Director of Health Initiaives at Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Adrienne Harden, RDN, VCHA's Community Health Center Nutritionist who leads VCHA's Food as Medicine program Throughout the afternoon, the group discussed the role of nutrition in healthcare and identified opportunities for collaboration across community health centers, managed care partners, and food banks. Thank you to our partners for bringing their insights and energy to this incredibly important conversation, of which this Summit was just the beginning. We look forward to further developing this collaboration as we work to grow our Food as Medicine initiatives across Virginia 💚
