NVIDIA-backed AI platform for dynamic power orchestration in data centers and the grid
About us
Utilidata is an NVIDIA-backed AI company transforming how critical infrastructure, like data centers and the electric grid, use power. Utilidata’s Karman platform delivers dynamic power orchestration for AI factories, enabling data center operators to increase compute capacity up to 50%. In partnership with NVIDIA, Utilidata built one of the world’s smallest AI computing modules, a custom version of the Jetson Orin Nano, to easily embed in compact electrical devices to provide unparalleled visibility and power-flow control. By combining AI with high-resolution metrology and low-latency control, Karman autonomously identifies underutilized capacity and converts it into incremental, revenue-generating workloads, enabling operators to maximize capacity utilization. Utilidata has optimized electric distribution grid power flow with AI for over a decade and has embedded Karman into smart meters to bring real-time visibility and power-flow control to the electric grid. We are a collaborative and adaptive team working to tackle big problems. With backgrounds in electrical engineering, power systems engineering, software engineering, data science, AI, and government, we bring a unique perspective to solving our energy challenges. We are committed to ensuring a diverse, inclusive, and flexible workplace where employees are provided mentorship and growth opportunities and are empowered to solve problems as part of a collaborative team.

Stranded power is stranded revenue. We’re changing that. We've partnered with NexGen Cloud to deploy our power orchestration platform, Karman, to increase AI compute capacity by 50% from existing power—helping data centers scale faster without waiting for new grid infrastructure. On our new partnership via Data Center Knowledge: "A strong signal that power intelligence is becoming as strategic as GPUs in the AI race. Treating the data center like a controllable mini‑grid and algorithmically reclaiming stranded capacity is exactly where the market is heading...because in the next wave of AI infrastructure, the smartest kilowatt wins." 🔗 Read more: https://lnkd.in/eG-A__nn

Maximizing grid edge performance is no longer optional — it’s foundational to the future of utilities and data centers. Karman is enabling operators to unlock significantly more capacity from existing power infrastructure through real‑time visibility, intelligent orchestration, and precise control. Join us at DISTRIBUTECH for a discussion with NVIDIA and Danovo Energy Solutions that will cover how distributed AI is transforming DER management, leveraging digital twins, and transforming what’s possible at the grid edge. Then come find us at the Advantech booth!

Before AI data centers add more megawatts, they can unlock the ones they already have. We’ve released a preview of our open source software that shows how to integrate data from our distributed AI platform, Karman, with AI data center servers. Without complete visibility into rack-level power behavior, data center operators can't fully manage their power budget to maximize compute. Powered by our custom NVIDIA module, Karman bridges this gap with microsecond visibility and low-latency AI-driven controls. More models for the same megawatts. 📍Meet our team at the Open Compute Project Foundation #2025OCPGlobalSummit in San Jose next week and learn more! ⬇️ Download: https://lnkd.in/e48jyzS2
