AI has the capacity to positively transform health care — and the UT System is on a mission to implement it safely and responsibly in ways that put patients first. The UT System Board of Regents Health Affairs Committee just moved forward a proposal to invest a further $15 million in the UT REAL Health AI initiative, which is also supported with state funding. Currently 12 projects — from fetal movement detection and retina scanning to HIPAA-compliant diagnostic tools — are underway. The new funding will be invested in new projects, as well as system-wide expansion of successfully piloted AI tools. The goal is clear: ensuring that Texas will lead at the forefront of AI and healthcare to the benefit of patients across the state.

The more data there is to train AI, the better it gets. Meanwhile, telescopes harvest astronomical amounts of data from outer space. "It's a match made in the cosmos," says The University of Texas at Austin professor Stella Offner. 🔭 🪐 💻 💾 Offner is the director of NSF-Simons AI Institute for Cosmic Origins (CosmicAI) which develops AI tools to process astronomy data. From understanding dark matter to uncovering the chemical origins of life, CosmicAI researchers are helping to answer some of humanity's most fundamental questions, all the while advancing AI tools that will benefit a host of fields closer to earth. 🌍 The Oden Institute for Computational Engineering and Sciences has more: https://lnkd.in/ebTVmUQx

Time to get building! The newly opened Blueprint Lab in Brownsville provides a dedicated space for UTRGV students to take their first steps manufacturing ideas to market.
Ideas can now turn into reality as UTRGV and the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation (BCIC) have partnered to establish the Valley's first advanced prototyping space, the Blueprint Lab. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place last week at the eBridge Center in downtown Brownsville. The lab will feature a Modix large-format 3D printer, a Bambu desktop 3D printer, CNC machining tools and vinyl design systems. The lab offers free 3D printing services to the public and is open 15 hours a week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. To schedule use of the lab, contact BCIC at 956-382-7500. Across the UT System, we are passionate about the potential of academic research to drive real-world impact as quickly and effectively as possible. The University of Texas at Austin’s inaugural Innovation Week brought students, faculty, and industry leaders together to accelerate connections between research, innovation and impact. From startup pitch competitions to exclusive showcases of cutting-edge intellectual property, and deep dives into the future of the Central Texas workforce, Innovation Week 2026 offered a comprehensive look at the University’s role in driving innovation and celebrating the journey from campus discovery to real-world impact. The week culminated with competitive funding awards for 56 UT startups who received $446,500 in funding to help bring their research to life.
Exciting to see this spotlight on how innovation is scaling across The University of Texas at Austin through cross-campus collaboration, commercialization, and translational impact. This year’s inagural Innovation Week brought together partners from across UT Austin and The University of Texas System — including Discovery to Impact, Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin, Texas Health Catalyst at UT Austin Dell Medical School, the Brumley Institute for Graduate Entrepreneurship, Industry Engagement, UT Career Success, and the Office of Career & Life Design— to help move breakthrough ideas from the lab into the real world. We are proud to have partnered with these institutions to help unite and showcase innovation, research translation, and workforce development efforts happening across campus, including our Texas Health Catalyst (TxHC) Roundup & Rodeo event, which highlighted bold health and life science innovations from across UT Austin, advancing real-world impact in areas including brain health, diagnostics, medical devices, digital health, and more. A huge congratulations to all of the innovators, researchers, students, mentors, and collaborators helping build Austin’s growing innovation ecosystem and translating research into solutions that improve lives. It's global advising week, and we're celebrating academic advisors across the UT System for the vital role they play in helping students succeed. Advisors are often the first point of connection for students—helping them navigate degree pathways, make informed decisions, and prepare for life after graduation. Through guidance, encouragement, and deep knowledge of academic programs and career pathways, advisors empower students to stay on track academically and enter the workforce with confidence. Thank you for your dedication, expertise, and unwavering commitment to student achievement. #GlobalAdvisingWeek #AdvisingMatters #UTSystem

The Archer Center celebrated its 25th anniversary — a quarter century of shaping the next generation of American leaders — with an event at the Library of Congress over the weekend. Archer Fellows spend a semester or summer in Washington, D.C., immersing themselves in full-time internships and rigorous academic coursework at the heart of the policymaking process. Fellows have walked the halls of the White House, served on Capitol Hill, and worked at the U.S. Supreme Court — gaining firsthand experience at the highest levels of government. Alumni include more than 20 Fulbright Scholars, and nearly 40 graduates currently serve on Capitol Hill. Many others have gone on to forge influential careers in law, medicine, business, nonprofits, and higher education.
