UnitedHealth Group reposted this
I left the stage at the Axios Future of Health Summit yesterday more energized than ever about where healthcare is headed and the possibilities that lie ahead. Across every conversation, one theme was clear: we must build a better healthcare system that people understand and trust. One that is more personalized, more consumer-driven and far more transparent. And there’s a real urgency to make that vision a reality. At Optum Rx, we’re doing just that. This week, we introduced a new pharmacy care model grounded in transparency, with a simple, fee-based approach. Paired with new digital tools, we’re helping people better understand their options and make more informed decisions before they ever reach the pharmacy counter. And we’re just beginning. We are fired up about the changes we announced this week and are even more excited about what’s to come. It’s time to radically redesign the system and there is a lot of work to be done. The future of healthcare isn’t theoretical; it’s happening in real time. And we’re proud to help lead the way. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gnRDHZsG

Pharmacy care shouldn’t come with surprises. Optum Rx’s new transparency model is designed to make pricing clearer, align incentives and help patients understand their options earlier — supporting a simpler, more trusted pharmacy experience.
For nearly half of Americans, a prescription medication is part of daily life. That makes the pharmacy one of the most common and most personal ways people experience our healthcare system. Too often, that experience is confusing. People don’t know what they’ll pay or why until they’re standing at the pharmacy counter, and that uncertainty creates stress for patients and families. That’s why Optum Rx is reimagining pharmacy care with the industry’s first transparency model designed to fundamentally change how pharmacy benefits are priced and delivered. The goal is straightforward: clearer pricing, simpler experiences and incentives aligned with benefit plan sponsors and patients. Yesterday, we announced a new pharmacy care model that replaces guesswork with clarity by showing how pricing works, how information is shared and how value flows through the system. What matters most is the impact. For patients and caregivers, we’re introducing two new affordability solutions that bring clarity and choice earlier in the journey, before they fill a prescription. These digital tools help people better understand their options and compare prices up front, so they can choose what works best for their needs and budgets. For health plans, employers and other plan sponsors, we’re offering simpler, fee based pricing that removes the link between prescription volume and drug prices. That makes pharmacy costs easier to predict, plan and manage, and builds trust through transparency. Our model will pass through 100% of discount rebates to the plan sponsors, including from the group purchasing organization, and remove any incentive tied to list price. We will provide the lowest net cost, most efficacious drugs to our customers always. We also have now expanded our cost-based reimbursement model to 100% of independent and community pharmacies, solving a pain point for these pharmacies and supporting access, including in rural areas. As a physician, I’ve seen how stressful it is when people don’t know what they’ll owe until it’s time to pay. We can do better by making pricing clearer, aligning incentives and giving people more control over their care. This builds on our ongoing work to lower costs, increase transparency and make pharmacy care easier to understand and trust. Read the full announcement here: https://lnkd.in/gcUtzrMz

Optum is introducing a new approach to pharmacy care, fundamentally changing how pharmacy benefits are priced, delivering greater transparency for health plan sponsors, and clearer, upfront costs and options for people filling prescriptions. It’s one more way we’re working to simplify health care for those we serve.
Optum Rx is introducing an industry-first model that fundamentally changes how pharmacy benefits are priced and delivered. It builds on our work to modernize pharmacy care, with transparency and a better experience at the center. For health plan sponsors, it means greater transparency, eliminating spread pricing and similar practices with a simpler, fee-based approach. For people filling prescriptions, it means clear, upfront pricing and more options before they pick up their medications. Find out more about how we’re reimagining pharmacy care. ⬇️ optum.co/6d145e
