Spring travel nursing hits different — here are the 5 best states for an April–June 2026 contract. 1. California The highest pay on this list and for good reason. Mandated nurse-to-patient ratios mean you're walking into one of the best-staffed clinical environments in the country. High COL (142.2) means you'll want to budget intentionally — but the earning potential is hard to beat. 2. Texas Solid pay with a COL index of just 92.1 — your dollars stretch further here than almost anywhere else on this list. Dallas, Houston, and Austin offer a strong variety of specialties and the kind of consistent demand that keeps your schedule full all spring. 3. New York World-class facilities, competitive pay, and a range that rewards experienced nurses with in-demand specialties. NYC carries a higher COL (134.5), but nurses who go upstate get access to excellent systems without the city price tag. 4. Washington The best all-around package this spring. Strong pay, a manageable COL (115.8), and a healthcare system that ranks top 10–15 nationally. If you want great clinical experience without sacrificing purchasing power, Washington delivers. 5. Georgia Don't sleep on Georgia. A low COL of 93.4 means your take-home goes a long way, and the state's healthcare system is expanding fast — particularly in the Atlanta metro — creating steady demand and more specialty options every season. Which state is on your radar this spring? #TravelNurse2026 #SpringAssignment
