As we recognize #InfrastructureWeek, we're proud to support projects that help keep Virginia's transportation infrastructure safe and reliable. In early 2023, the Virginia Department of Transportation launched its limited-scope guardrail terminal maintenance inspection program, covering more than 7,400 miles of guardrail and approximately 150,000 terminals statewide. Working alongside VDOT staff, our guardrail experts have inspected over 34,000 terminals and continue to support the design and replacement of damaged terminals throughout the Commonwealth. When heavy rain begins to fall, most residents want to know one thing: “Will the water reach my home, and when should I start to worry?” Flood inundation mapping systems help answer that question by providing a dynamic picture of where water will go, how high it will rise, and when it will arrive. In this article, Nathan Tate, Software Engineering Manager, and David Duncan, Stormwater Manager, discuss how real-time visualization transforms flood risk into actionable intelligence. Join us for a sneak peek inside the Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden expansion! This two-year transformation is enhancing one of the region's premier cultural and environmental destinations 🌿🌺🌵🦋 As the project engineer, Timmons Group provided land development, stormwater design, survey, and environmental services. "One of the biggest design challenges was revitalizing Wick Lake to serve multiple purposes," said Urban Development group leader Amelia Wehunt. "The design integrates the Lake with the irrigation pond to create a system that's both functional and part of the guest experience." It was an honor to play a role in this major development alongside 3North and Hourigan. Congratulations to our partners at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden! When he's not managing projects across the Southeast, Tom Cannarella, PE, LEED AP mentors students at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, helping prepare the next generation of civil engineers. "This semester, I worked with a team of six students in the Civil Engineering Senior Design course at USC, guiding them through real-world design decisions. It's been a great opportunity to share practical experience and help them understand how projects come together beyond the classroom." The program is a required senior-level course that connects theory with practice, giving students the opportunity to tackle complex challenges and develop innovative solutions. If you're looking to build your career with a team that values mentorship, hands-on experience, and meaningful project work, Timmons Group is #Hiring in Columbia and Charleston >> https://hubs.ly/Q04g5J-P0 #CivilEngineering #NowHiring #SouthCarolina

As recent disasters across the country have shown, early warning systems play a critical role in protecting communities during flood events. North Carolina's Flood Inundation Mapping and Alert Network (FIMAN) helps state officials, first responders, and the public prepare for flooding, respond more effectively to changing conditions, and support recovery efforts after emergencies. This demo highlights FIMAN's key features and shows how the tool is advancing emergency management and resiliency efforts for inland and coastal flooding across North Carolina >> https://lnkd.in/eCKGhmHN Learn how your community can implement a real-time flood intelligence platform with FloodAware >> https://lnkd.in/eCE_8T5r #FloodAware #EmergencyPreparedness #FloodResilience #FloodForecasting

For #EconDevWeek, we’re highlighting how integrated engineering and grant support can help communities compete for transformative economic development opportunities. At the Heartland Innovative Technology (HIT) Park in Prince Edward County, Virginia, Timmons Group partnered with the County and the Commonwealth Regional Council to secure more than $1.5M in critical funding, complete site due diligence, and design infrastructure needed to attract large-scale industrial and technology employers. These efforts helped position the site for long-term economic growth and bring a $5 billion private investment to the region. Located in Spartanburg County, South Carolina, Smith Farms Industrial Park is a 475-acre, fully entitled Class A industrial park within one of the fastest-growing industrial corridors in the U.S. Timmons Group provided master planning, civil engineering, and surveying services for the park, which was originally planned across five phases to support a mix of warehousing, distribution, and light manufacturing uses. Phase I included the construction of two speculative distribution facilities totaling more than 600,000 SF. Subsequent phases added three buildings ranging from 300,000 SF to over 1,000,000 SF, with a 300,000 SF aerospace manufacturing facility currently underway. Our team also designed and permitted all public infrastructure, including internal park roadways, water and sewer systems, a public sewer lift station, stormwater management facilities, and off-site improvements. The park’s location and scalable design continue to support industrial growth across the Upstate. #CommericalLandDevelopment #SouthCarolina #CivilEngineering #EconomicDevelopmentWeek

Over the past several years, obtaining funding for infrastructure projects has become more complex and competitive, while federal funding has become far less predictable. Many public agencies are still operating in reactive mode, which carries a real risk in today’s environment. Grant readiness offers a more proactive path, enabling leaders to make key decisions early and respond quickly when opportunities arise. Learn more from grants writer Bekah Kendrick about how you can stay grant-ready in an uncertain funding environment >> https://hubs.ly/Q04fxN4n0 #EconDevWeek #Grants #Infrastructure #EconomicDevelopment
