MSF, our co-founding member, has been recognized for its indepence, expertise and commitment to delivering health care to those in dire need. And #humanitarianmapping in OpenStreetMap has been a key component in reaching them and promoting access to medical care, where it is lacking.
The Harvard Humanitarian Initiative is honored to announce Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) as the recipient of the 2026 HHI Elisabeth B. Weintz Humanitarian Award. This award recognizes MSF’s unwavering commitment to delivering independent, impartial, and lifesaving medical care to people affected by conflict, disaster, epidemics, and displacement around the world. In a moment of growing political and financial pressure on humanitarian systems globally, MSF’s principled approach to humanitarian action remains critically important. HHI will welcome Dr. Mohamed Javid Abdelmoneim to Harvard in October 2026 to receive the award on behalf of MSF and deliver a lecture to the Harvard academic community. “We are honored to bestow this year’s HHI Weintz Humanitarian Award to MSF for its independence, expertise, and moral leadership that has shaped the modern humanitarian landscape and inspired generations of health professionals and humanitarians,” said Michael VanRooyen, MD, MPH, HHI Founding Director.
