At #NewYorkClimateWeek, Sequoia and Meliore Foundation co-hosted the Breaking Through reception to celebrate our new partners, CommsHub, among others. Our President, Christie Ulman, welcomed guests alongside Tom Brookes, Mary Fitzgerald, Natalie Samarasinghe, and Aarti Khosla of the Global Strategic Communications Council (GSCC). The discussion focused on the need to develop new capacities and approaches for reaching people in today’s more fragmented information environment. Christie remarked: The issues that motivate people are deeply connected to their health, safety, cost of living, and livelihoods. Too often, climate change is presented as an isolated crisis. As climate change becomes more polarized in politics and culture, I remain optimistic that the link among these issues is clear, and that advocates can communicate that effectively and persuasively. Together with our partners, Sequoia is ensuring that communications, politics, and culture are embedded in climate strategy from the very beginning, to build policies that protect all people, including future generations, from the worst impacts of climate change. #philanthropy #climatecomms #climatechange
