We had a great time connecting with Florida credit unions during our town halls last week. Our team visited FAIRWINDS Credit Union and USF Credit Union to discuss how we, as a League, can continue to better support and serve our members. More than 71 attendees joined us today for our Virtual Compliance and BSA Workshop, learning from industry experts on some of the most pressing issues facing credit unions. The day kicked off with a discussion on state and national fraud trends led by Chelsea Treboniak, President of Critical Ops, and Mark Solomon, International President of the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators (IAFCI). Attendees also heard from Niall Twomey, CRCM, and Justin Brown, of Crowe, on the pillars of an effective fair lending program. This afternoon, attendees had the chance to hear from Susan Landauer, Partner of Forensic Accounting Services, LLC, where she discussed fraud from all sides and the ethical safeguards that could be put in place. We’re excited to launch our Congressional Spotlight series, highlighting lawmakers across our footprint who are strong champions for the credit union movement. We’re proud to recognize Representative Dale Strong (AL-05), who, since being elected to Congress in 2022, has been a steadfast supporter of credit union priorities, including the CDFI Fund, the “No New Tax Pledge,” and the Credit Union Board Modernization Act. In recognition of his leadership and commitment to the movement, Congressman Strong received The League’s 2024 Lawmaker of the Year Award.
