We recently celebrated a major milestone with the topping out of the new four-story LACCD East Los Angeles College Nursing, Allied Health, and Public Safety Building, designed to support the next generation of healthcare and public safety professionals. Swinerton is providing general contracting services for this state-of-the-art facility, which will serve Nursing, Allied Health, and Public Service/Public Safety programs including EMT, Fire, and Police. The building brings these disciplines together through in-house simulation labs, research spaces, and flexible classrooms that support both focused instruction and interdisciplinary learning. Because hands-on, real-world simulation is central to these programs, the project requires a thoughtful and highly coordinated construction approach. From custom acoustical, audiovisual, and MEP systems to advanced technology, specialized equipment, and oversized control rooms, every element is being carefully integrated to support complex learning environments. Congratulations to the entire project team and partners on reaching this exciting milestone! We’re proud to help build spaces that prepare students for the critical work ahead. #Swinerton #ToppingOut #ConstructionMilestone #DesignBuild #BuildingTheFuture

Mass timber is changing what’s possible in the built environment—and the conversation is evolving just as quickly as the technology. We’re looking forward to being at the AIA Conference on Architecture 2026, where Swinerton’s Nathan Buxser, AIA, LEED AP will join industry peers for a timely discussion: “What General Contractors Want Designers to Know About Mass Timber” 🗓 Thursday, June 11, 2026 ⏰ 2:30–3:30 PM (Learning Lounge) Bringing a builder’s perspective to the design conversation, Nathan will share lessons learned from the field—what drives efficiency, coordination, and successful outcomes on mass timber projects. The session will also feature insights from partners across the industry, reinforcing the importance of early collaboration between designers and constructors. As mass timber continues to gain momentum, these conversations are critical to aligning intent with execution and delivering projects that perform for clients and communities alike. If you’re attending AIA26, let’s connect. What questions do you want contractors and designers to be asking each other right now? #AIA26 #MassTimber #Construction #DesignBuild #AEC #Sustainability #BuiltEnvironment

Swinerton is proud to share that SAN Airport’s Terminal 1 Parking Plaza will receive the Apex Award of Excellence for Facility Design: Stand Alone at the International Parking & Mobility Institute (IPMI) Annual Conference this June. Congratulations to the San Diego County Regional Airport Authority, along with our project partners Turner Construction Company, Gensler and Watry Design, Inc. We’re honored to have partnered on such a landmark project. This five-level, two‑million‑square‑foot parking plaza provides more than 5,200 parking spaces just steps from Terminal 1. Built adjacent to active runways while the airport remained fully operational, the project required exceptional coordination, precision, and teamwork at every stage. We’re especially proud of the project’s sustainability achievements. Through optimized concrete mixes and construction practices, the team reduced embodied carbon by 14 percent, exceeded EV infrastructure requirements, and helped the facility earn ParkSmart Gold certification. Congratulations to everyone who contributed their expertise and dedication to making the Terminal 1 Parking Plaza an award‑winning success.

Safety is a team effort and relies on the buy-in of every project member. Trevor Burgess, Safety Manager for Swinerton’s Carolinas Division, partners with field teams before projects even break ground through rigorous pre-planning of all site activities, particularly the high-risk processes. This minimizes unforeseen delays and makes sure everyone gets home safe. A one-team mentality extends across the nation, as the Safety Team continuously collaborates and helps each other succeed. Swinerton’s support and people-first approach is what inspires Trevor to come to work every day.

Our role is never to say no — it’s always to find the safest way to say yes. During Safety Week, we’re highlighting Senior Safety Engineer Ki'yera Rhymer, GSP from our Austin Division and her journey into construction safety at Swinerton. For Ki’yera, it’s about being part of a team that truly values the time, research, and effort it takes to keep everyone safe. As she shares, supporting teams in the field and helping ensure work is done safely is not only appreciated — it’s what inspired her to pursue a career in construction safety.
