Health Information Professionals (HIP) Week, established by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA), honors the vital contributions of professionals who manage patient health information and medical records. This week provides an opportunity for organizations to recognize these unsung guardians of health information. Their behind-the-scenes work is essential for compliance with regulations like HIPAA and Joint Commission, is vital to effective patient care, and plays an important part in the growing use of health information technology. These professionals have an integral role in our healthcare organization; from serving new parents by ensuring their new babies birth is registered appropriately with the State, to ensuring all patient documentation is prepared, scanned, and indexed appropriately into the legal medical record, to working with physicians and clinicians to ensure the patient record is complete; as well as researching accounts and ensuring all are submitted timely for accurate coding, to ensuring the record is stored securely and information is kept private. To every Health Information Professional: Thank you for your resilience, your compassion, and your commitment, especially on those difficult days when you have a full list of tasks to complete. You make a difference! #WeShowUp #ImproveMoreLives #HealthInformationProfessionalsWeek | HCA Healthcare | #MountainStarHealthcare

This week, we celebrate #PatientAccessWeek and recognize the team members who help patients take important first steps in their care journey. To thank the team, Jarred, director of patient access, and Jamie, assistant director of patient access, brought a little fun to the week as the “Patient Care Bears.” It was a playful nod to the way this team cares for patients every day and a reminder to care for the caregivers, too. From registration and scheduling to insurance verification and coordination, our patient access team helps create a smoother experience through clear communication, teamwork and support from the very beginning. Thank you to our patient access team for the compassion, energy and dedication you bring to St. Mark’s Hospital every day. #WeShowUp #ImproveMoreLives #MountainStarHealthcare | HCA Healthcare

April is HCA Healthcare’s Month of Service, a time to give back, build community partnerships and support the organizations that help our communities thrive. At St. Mark’s Hospital, we kicked off Month of Service with Neighborhood House, where colleagues joined participants for interactive activities designed to encourage connection, creativity and engagement. The event reflected the importance of showing up for our community in meaningful ways beyond the hospital setting. April is also #OccupationalTherapyMonth, making this kickoff especially meaningful with St. Mark’s occupational therapists participating in the event. Stay tuned for more moments from Month of Service as we continue giving back throughout April. #WeShowUp #ImproveMoreLives #MountainStarHealthcare

Happy #DoctorsDay and happy #PhysiciansWeek from St. Mark’s Hospital. Colleagues from across our hospital have been submitting recognition messages about the doctors they work alongside every day. We are sharing a few anonymous excerpts that speak to the character, capabilities and caring nature our physicians bring to patients and care teams. “Consistently demonstrates strong collaboration and communication with the nursing team.” “Creates a collaborative and respectful environment where everyone feels like a valued part of the team.” “Approachable, responsive and invested in making sure the team feels supported.” “Treats staff with respect and kindness.” “Takes the time to listen and explain.” “Kind, efficient and supportive.” To all our physicians, thank you for how you lead, how you communicate and how you care for people. We will continue sharing colleague recognitions throughout Physicians Week. HCA Healthcare | HCA Mountain Division | #MountainStarHealthcare #ImproveMoreLives

St. Mark’s Hospital is proud to share a milestone from our structural heart program. Dr. Vamsee Yaganti and our multidisciplinary heart team have completed 1,000 left atrial appendage closure procedures. For selected patients with atrial fibrillation, also called AFib, this minimally invasive approach may be an option to help reduce stroke risk, particularly when long-term anticoagulation is not ideal. Reaching this milestone reflects the work of an aligned, highly coordinated team across the continuum of care, including doctors, nurses, imaging, procedural teams and post-procedure care colleagues. This week, teams at St. Mark’s Hospital reached an important milestone in advanced heart care by completing our first minimally invasive tricuspid valve replacement for severe tricuspid regurgitation (sometimes called a “leaky” heart valve). When the tricuspid valve doesn’t close the way it should, blood can flow backward on the right side of the heart. Over time, that can contribute to symptoms that affect day-to-day life, including fatigue, shortness of breath and swelling. For appropriately selected patients, minimally invasive treatment options may help reduce valve leakage and support improved heart function and quality of life. In this first case at St. Mark’s, the care team observed a marked improvement in valve leakage on immediate assessment. The patient recovered well after the procedure, and next steps were guided by the patient’s individual condition and care plan. This milestone reflects the work of many colleagues across the structural heart clinic, echocardiography, the cath lab and supply chain, with strong partnership from our Heart Center, CT surgery and more. St. Mark’s is among a select group of HCA Healthcare hospitals performing this type of procedure—helping expand access to complex valve care closer to home. In recognition of Wear Blue Day and Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, our endoscopy team at St. Mark’s Hospital wore blue to help keep colorectal cancer screening top of mind. Screening can help detect cancer early, when it is most treatable. Screening often starts at age 45, and some people may need screening sooner based on risk factors. Encouraging informed conversations and timely screenings supports healthier tomorrows in the communities we serve. #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth #MountainStarHealthcare #HealthierTomorrows | HCA Healthcare
