At the ICN Congress held in Helsinki, amid global conversations on the future of nursing, one small moment captured the true spirit of innovation. A little boy who accompanied his mother - a nurse delegate , watched healthcare professionals eagerly lining up to experience SimX virtual reality nursing care scenarios. Curious and excited, he too wanted to step into the immersive world they were exploring. As he entered the virtual simulation and 'touched' a baby patient in the cradle, his face lit up with wonder. In that moment, VR became more than a training technology - it became a glimpse into the future of healthcare learning, inspiring even the youngest minds through empathy, curiosity, and human connection. Sometimes, the future of nursing is not only shaped in conference halls, but also in the eyes of a child discovering what healthcare education can become. As a son of a nurse myself, I could very well connect his emotions. Thank you Kendal Bailey PhD, RN, NE-BC, CNE, NPD-BC, CHSE for the photo. Saving our four-legged partners at SOMA 2026! It was an absolute privilege to connect with the tactical medicine community and showcase the future of training. A major highlight of the event was having SimX's own John Dorsch team up with his former colleague, Dr. Lee Palmer, DVM, to run attendees through immersive, high-stakes VR K9 TCCC scenarios utilizing our VALOR program. Equipping our medics with the skills to save the lives of operational K9s is a vital mission, and seeing these virtual reality scenarios in action was truly next-level.
