We’re grateful to have joined the Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s Annual National Convening to discuss how we can better support military and Veteran caregivers, and proud to contribute to the conversation around the National Blueprint for Action. One theme that resonated while we were there: families are already a trusted and critical part of the Veteran care team. Our systems should recognize, support, and strengthen the caregivers already doing the work.

One of the biggest challenges I see across the VA isn’t just access to care; it’s how we scale care at home in a way that actually works for Veterans and their families. On May 28th in Atlanta, we’re hosting a small, in-person working session to share what’s working and where we still have gaps to solve with our partners at Red Duke Strategies. This session is designed for: •VA Medical Center teams (social work, community care) •Community Care Network partners •Veteran Service Organizations (VSOs) •Health systems supporting Veterans post-discharge We’ll focus on: •Expanding caregiver supply, especially in rural communities •Improving continuity through trusted caregiver relationships •Creating economic opportunity for families caring for Veterans Atlanta, GA | Thursday, May 28th | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM If you’d like to join, reach out to Connect@Sharecare.com. Tomorrow, Sharecare’s COO Tim Husted will join leaders at the Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s Annual National Convening to discuss the National Blueprint for Action supporting military and Veteran caregivers. We’re honored to join tomorrow's conversation, and by all the work we’ve accomplished since we first collaborated through the Hidden Heroes initiative to pilot a new approach to supporting military and Veteran caregivers. That early work with the foundation in 2020 helped inform what has since grown into our Veteran caregiving program, delivered through CareLinx. Designed to give Veterans more choice, our model gives eligible Veterans the option to receive in-home care from a trusted friend or family member who becomes trained, vetted, and compensated as a professional caregiver. As Bill Martin reflects in a new blog post, this program, which started as an effort to address barriers to trusted in-home care has now delivered more than 1 million hours of VA-funded home care to Veterans: https://lnkd.in/gSHPdt33 And what we’ve seen from the results of our efforts, reinforces several themes reflected in the forthcoming #Blueprint: • Supporting caregivers improves support for Veterans • Economic stability matters for caregiving families • Better care depends on stronger support systems beyond clinical settings For many Veterans, the question is not whether care is available. It is whether that care comes from someone they trust. Families are already part of the care team. As we consider the Blueprint's call to action, ours is simple: We need systems that recognize and support the trusted individuals already caring for Veterans, and help make that care sustainable.

This International Day against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, we’re reminded of the unique challenges that navigating the healthcare system presents for all members of the LBTQIA+ community. The complexities of treatments, screenings, and preventive care can be especially daunting, and can feel even more difficult if you are on gender-affirming therapies.
