We had the privilege of sitting down with Seattle City Council President Joy Hollingsworth this week to share the work we've been building — and to talk about what comes next. We walked through our impact within the city: hundreds of participants served through programs that remain 100% free and open to anyone ready to build a career — regardless of background, experience level, or education. The conversation was a reminder of why community relationships matter. Real access requires real partnership. And Seattle has residents on our waitlist who are ready right now. We're grateful for Council President Hollingsworth's time and her commitment to workforce equity in this city. I’m so proud of my Comms teammates for successfully launching the first-ever “Council Huddle” this week! The idea behind this was simple: move away from the standard formal press conferences (that only seem to come up before bill introductions) and create an environment where reporters and councilmembers can actually have a conversation. It’s a much better way for my bosses to preview big initiatives and really dig into what’s impacting their specific districts. A huge “thank you” to Council President Hollingsworth for her support in making this pilot a reality, and to Councilmember Kettle for enthusiastically participating in our very first session. Next stop was King Street Station for the Unspoken Truths exhibit with Delbert Richardson. Delbert Richardson Last stop the Lunar New Year festivities in the Chinatown International District. ✌🏾❤️

Joined my colleague CM Foster and our partner Director Song to help raise awareness and real support for the music program at Washington Middle School. Huge thank you to the Seahawks, Mike (From Pearl Jam) and especially Sara Osborne from Safeway for their generosity and commitment. Together, they donated $30,000 to support the music program at Washington Middle School. Beyond the field, the Seahawks continue to show deep love for our community. Beyond the stage, Mike McCready continues to show up for our schools and music education. Beyond the store, Safeway remains a critical partner in food access for our neighborhoods. ❤️ yall!

When the Seahawks win, the city of Seattle Wins. Thank you Hawks! 🏆❤️

You can take the girl out of government… But you can’t take the government out of the girl! 😂 Yes, my job has officially ended but I couldn’t resist grabbing my camera and heading to City Hall for the Black History Month Proclamation. ❤️ 🖤 💚 I’ve been getting some interview training from my amazing HR rep, so I was at City Hall more than once this week. And let’s face it, I’ve always loved Council meetings, so I try to time my meetings to coincide with Council briefings or Council meetings if possible. I knew from attending Council Briefing on Monday they were doing the Black History Month proclamation the next day, which is one of my favorite annual proclamations. 😍 I had already planned to spend Tuesday afternoon out and about with my camera, so back to City Hall I went. Once the meeting was underway, I vowed to stay in my seat like a normal person, even though my camera was in my hands and ready to go. Not surprisingly, my commitment to that course of action completely evaporated in the moment. Hopefully I didn’t irritate Leg Dept comms too much, but I couldn’t resist running up to the podium to grab a couple pictures of the City Council and City Attorney Erika Evans with the proclamation. 📷 You can see me on Seattle Channel if you don’t believe me. 🤣 😂 🤷♀️ City Attorney Evans was there to receive it, which was awesome. As an aside, this is a GLORIOUS proclamation. I wish it was posted online so that I could share it on social media. Councilmember Foster plans to present it to the community at the Northwest African American Museum at the performance of ‘Living Voices’ on February 28, the last day of Black History Month. But let’s face the facts: Every month is Black History Month. Black history is Seattle history. Black history is King County history. Black history is Washington history.
