Katherine Johnson, a mathematician whose calculations were critical to NASA’s space missions, helped make space exploration possible at a time when both racial and gender barriers were firmly in place. Her precision and brilliance proved that innovation thrives when talent is given space to lead. In the world of computing, Mark Dean played a key role in developing the personal computer as we know it today. As one of the engineers behind the IBM PC and a holder of multiple patents, his work helped make computers more accessible, scalable, and powerful, laying the groundwork for everyday technology used in homes and businesses alike. Another trailblazer, Roy L. Clay Sr., is often referred to as one of the fathers of Silicon Valley. As a computer scientist and leader in early tech development, he broke barriers and opened doors in an industry that was just beginning to take shape, helping pave the way for greater representation in tech.
