It’s graduation day for our USC School of Cinematic Arts Regal Scholars and time to recognize our final student shaping the future of filmmaking.   Today’s featured scholar: Hyekang Shin ‘26, MFA, John Wells Division of Writing for Film & Television   Hyekang Shin is a screenwriter whose work explores identity, belonging, and the lengths people go to in search of connection.   Growing up as a second-generation Korean American, Hyekang often felt caught between cultures, influencing his perspective as a storyteller.   Drawn to outsiders and unconventional voices, his journey led him from underground film circles in Northern China to film sets where he has continued to develop his voice.   Congratulations to Hyekang and the entire 2026 Regal Scholar class. We can’t wait to see what you create next.

With graduation just one day away, we’re continuing to celebrate our talented USC School of Cinematic Arts Regal Scholars.   Today’s featured scholar: Rita Pereyra ‘26, MFA, Kevin Feige Division of Film & Television Production   Rita Pereyra is a writer and director from Mendoza, Argentina. Raised by a determined single mother who immigrated to Miami, Rita's childhood was marked by poverty and uncertainty, leading her to find solace and inspiration in storytelling.   She went on to earn two degrees in Political Science and English from Florida International University, graduating with honors while remaining active in community work and advocacy.   Now graduating from USC’s School of Cinematic Arts—where she’s been honored as an Annenberg Fellow and a Regal Scholar—Rita remains rooted in her mission to amplify stories that are often underrepresented.   Congratulations, Rita! Regal is excited to see how your storytelling continues to create meaningful impact and inspire future audiences.

At Regal, we believe in supporting the future of storytelling both on and off the screen.   As our USC School of Cinematic Arts Regal Scholars prepare for graduation, we’re excited to spotlight students bringing creativity and innovation to the entertainment industry’s next chapter. Today’s featured scholar: Ciara Borgards ’26, MFA, John C. Hench Division of Animation + Digital Arts   Ciara’s work spans a range of mediums, including animation, virtual production, and hybrid films that blend live action with animation. During her time at USC, she directed four short films—one of which was presented at San Diego Comic-Con, earned Best VFX Film at The Rookies international competition, and was nominated for a Visual Effects Society (VES) Award for Outstanding Visual Effects in a Student Project.   Ciara previously interned at Magnopus, where she contributed to an immersive Fortnite experience, and is currently a trainee at Walt Disney Animation Studios. We can’t wait to see where her passion for animation takes her next and the stories she brings to life in the years ahead. Congratulations, Ciara!

Project Hail Mary delivered a strong weekend across Regal Cineworld’s U.S. circuit, with the company achieving an 18.5% market share on the title and overall market share above 16.4%.   Regal locations ranked among the top-performing theatres nationwide, including Irvine Spectrum (#2), Hacienda Crossings (#7), and Union Square (#8). Premium formats were a big part of that performance, accounting for 50% of total box office and 37% of admissions. That’s a real sign that audiences are choosing immersive experiences like IMAX, RPX, and 4DX, and a reflection of why Regal is investing in improving the customer experience.   Behind the numbers is the work happening across Regal every day, from teams getting theatres ready for major releases to those creating great moments for guests once the doors open.   Most of all, congratulations to the cast and crew of the movie, and to the Amazon MGM team for achieving their biggest movie opening in their history.

Lots of excitement across the world about the opening of Wicked: For Good this weekend, and I’ve already had the chance to see it twice. It’s no surprise that our theatres everywhere are buzzing, with huge demand for a movie that everyone’s been waiting a year for. What stays with me when I think about blockbusters like Wicked isn’t just the film itself, but more the things that big openings spark around them. You get to see the energy and eagerness in the way people make plans days in advance, texting friends, picking showtimes, turning a movie into an evening together. And you feel it too inside each Regal, Cineworld, Picturehouse, Cinema City and Planet theatres, as our amazing teams get ready for the kind of weekend where every auditorium is even more electric than usual. There’s a shared sense of anticipation on both sides of the concession stands (I think the team did a great job of capturing that in the spot below, by the way!) One of the things I’ve always loved about this business is that movies give people a reason to gather. No scrolling, no distractions - just a room full of people reacting to the same moment at the same time. It’s simple but it’s powerful, and it’s something every single person at Regal Cineworld - in our theatres and in our offices - works hard to protect and elevate each day. https://lnkd.in/gzVpHqDe
