Updates

  • At Radius, we sometimes get the opportunity to give well‑known assets a responsible next chapter at the end of their service life. That’s been the case with TriMet’s iconic MAX Type 1 trains, nearly all of which have now been recycled at our #Portland facility. Through careful dismantling and recovery, these trains are being repurposed into new products, supporting sustainability and a circular approach to material use. We appreciate the trust TriMet placed in us to responsibly #recycle these long‑serving transit assets.

As bittersweet as saying goodbye to our original MAX trains may seem, like reaching the final sentence of a good book, it’s actually just the start of a new and exciting chapter. After reliably serving the Portland metropolitan area for just shy of 40 years, nearly all of the Type 1s have now been recycled at Radius Recycling. Having been repurposed into new building materials, these older, analog vehicles have been replaced by our most technologically advanced MAX trains yet, the Type 6s. https://lnkd.in/g_b7cpuA We know a lot of people have fond memories of these trains. To say goodbye, TriMet will be holding a farewell event at Holladay Park on Saturday, April 18, from noon to 3 p.m. There. you'll be able to experience one of the last existing Type 1s.
