Thank you to the Pediatric Pharmacy Association Journal of Pediatric Pharmacy and Therapeutics for inviting our Chief Clinical Officer, Marry Vuong PharmD BCPPS, to contribute a commentary on prenatal cannabis use and its potential effects on babies. This is an important and timely topic for pediatric clinicians, pharmacists, caregivers, and healthcare teams working to support healthier pregnancies and infant outcomes. We are grateful for the opportunity to add to the conversation and help raise awareness around evidence-based care for families. Link in comments #Pediatrics #PediatricPharmacy #MaternalHealth

This week’s Perfecting Peds Perfect Dose focuses on expiration dates. Medication expiration management may seem small, but for health plans, it can drive meaningful ROI. When families do not realize a rescue medication, inhaler, insulin, glucagon, seizure medication, or antibiotic is expired, the result can be delayed treatment, avoidable urgent care use, emergency department visits, duplicate fills, or preventable gaps in therapy. A pediatric PharmD-led medication safety check helps identify expired or soon-to-expire medications before they become a problem. That means: ✔ Better medication readiness ✔ Fewer avoidable escalations of care ✔ Improved adherence and refill planning ✔ Stronger quality and safety outcomes ✔ Better support for high-risk pediatric members Being proactive about expiration dates is not just a safety intervention. It is a cost-avoidance strategy. At Perfecting Peds, we help families stay ready before the medication is needed.

✨ Feel Good Friday ✨ After nearly 18 months on a waitlist, a 13-year-old patient with complex behavioral health needs including anxiety, auditory hallucinations, and sleep disturbances still had no scheduled mental health evaluation. Her family was ready to travel over 100 miles just to get her the care she needed. Then something simple made a real difference. Someone took the time to listen. Hannah Cinelli stepped in, used her network, and found a provider in their plan for a neuropsych evaluation less than 20 miles from home. Even better, the appointment was now just two months away. What felt like an endless wait suddenly turned into a clear next step. Getting the right diagnosis matters. It shapes medications, therapy plans, and access to the right resources. This is a good reminder for all of us in healthcare. The biggest impact does not always come from new resources. Sometimes it comes from using what we already have in a more thoughtful way. Access improves when we: • truly listen to families • advocate beyond the usual process • take an extra moment to look for better options This is what care coordination should look like. #FeelGoodFriday #CareCoordination #BehavioralHealth #Pediatrics #HealthEquity

Perfecting Peds is proud to announce our partnership with Molina Healthcare in South Carolina. This launch expands our work with health plans to identify and resolve medication-driven risk in children and young adults, especially those with medical complexity, polypharmacy, and avoidable utilization risk. Pediatric medication management is often treated as a narrow pharmacy function. We see it differently. For many children and families, medications sit at the center of clinical risk, caregiver burden, care coordination gaps, and preventable medical spend. That is where Perfecting Peds focuses. Through pharmacist-led comprehensive medication management, caregiver engagement, provider collaboration, and closed-loop intervention tracking, our team helps turn medication insight into action. We are grateful to Molina Healthcare for the partnership and for their commitment to improving outcomes for pediatric members in South Carolina. This is an exciting step forward for Perfecting Peds, for our work in value-based care, and most importantly, for the children and families we serve. #PerfectingPeds #MolinaHealthcare #PediatricCare #MedicationManagement #ValueBasedCare #HealthPlans

Happy Mother’s Day from Perfecting Peds. Today, we recognize the mothers and caregivers of medically complex children: the ones managing medication schedules, crushing meds for G-tubes, coordinating follow-up appointments, preparing for procedures, communicating with specialists, and advocating tirelessly for their children’s needs. Their work is often unseen, but it is deeply felt. It takes patience, resilience, organization, and an immeasurable amount of love. To every mom caring for a complex kiddo: we see your dedication, we honor your strength, and we are grateful to walk alongside you in your child’s care journey. Wishing you a warm and meaningful Mother’s Day. 💙

It’s Family Friday, and today we’re introducing Justin Cole, PharmD, BCPS, FPPA, our Senior Vice President of Product at Perfecting Peds. Justin leads product strategy at Perfecting Peds with a simple but powerful goal: bring pediatric pharmacy expertise to medically complex children wherever they are in their care journey. With 20 years across clinical practice, academia, and innovation, Justin knows great product work is really great problem-solving: finding the right problems, building what families love, providers trust, and health plans value. His “why” is personal. Pharmacy runs in his family, but his calling was shaped early by watching his dad and a close friend receive care in children’s hospitals. That experience, along with his faith and belief in the worth of every young person, still drives him today. Outside work, Justin is cheering on his three teenagers, exploring national parks, leading youth canoe trips with his wife, and somehow still making room for the Columbus Blue Jackets and OSU Buckeyes. Fun fact: Justin has played sousaphone, tuba, trumpet, baritone, guitar, and drums. Basically, if Perfecting Peds ever starts a pep band, we know who’s leading it. We’re lucky to have Justin’s heart, humor, and product vision on the team.

This Why Wednesday comes from our President and Co-Founder, Lyle Mioduszewski, whose work at Perfecting Peds began with a simple but powerful belief: good healthcare ideas are not enough. They have to reach the patients and families who need them most. As a nurse, Lyle was drawn to pediatrics because children are rarely in the hospital unless they truly need to be there, and usually through no fault of their own. Becoming a father deepened that commitment. Two of his children live with anaphylactic food allergies, giving him a personal understanding of the vigilance, fear, and love families carry every day. That experience shapes his work with children with complex needs, their caregivers, and the clinicians who support them. It also fuels his belief that healthcare must be reformed around outcomes. Too much of the system is built around financial machinery, while too little reaches patients, families, and the people working directly beside them. That is Lyle’s why, and part of our why at Perfecting Peds: build something that works, deliver it with accountability, and help move healthcare back toward the patient. At Perfecting Peds, that means partnering with health plans to improve outcomes for children with complex needs while supporting the families and care teams around them.

Over the last 27 months, Perfecting Peds has gone from funded and live with our first payer customers to building what we believe is one of the most important pediatric medication management platforms in the country. With seed-stage funding, our team has achieved what typically takes companies an order of magnitude more capital and time. We now have seven health plan contracts across commercial, Medicaid, exchange, and ASO lines of business. We have launched full production programs with regional and national health plans. We have published outcomes in peer-reviewed literature. We have demonstrated meaningful reductions in total cost of care for high-risk pediatric populations, validated through claims-based analyses. We have built a care model that connects pharmacists, prescribers, caregivers, and payers around one goal: improving the lives of children who are medically complex, high-risk, and too often underserved by traditional medication management models. And this year, we are preparing for several national opportunities, along with our first Blue Cross Blue Shield launch in Q3 through our Excellent Therapies program model. What makes me most proud is that we built it while delivering care. We did not wait for perfect conditions, unlimited funding, or a massive infrastructure. We built while serving patients, supporting families, proving outcomes, and earning the trust of health plans. Perfecting Peds was founded on a simple belief: children deserve medication management designed specifically for them, not adult models retrofitted for pediatrics. Twenty-seven months in, the market is proving that belief right. Keep grinding. Keep picking yourself up. Keep doing it better and differently. Keep thinking of patients before everything else. The rest is noise.
