AI isn't eliminating tech jobs, it's restructuring them. And the data is starting to show exactly how. New research from Harvard Business School, published in Harvard Business Review, found that job postings for routine, automation-prone roles have fallen by 13% since ChatGPT launched, while demand for analytical, technical, and creative positions has grown by 20%. Finance and technology are seeing the steepest declines in routine work. Healthcare and professional services are expanding. The takeaway for organizations: the roles you're hiring for today may look fundamentally different 18 months from now. A financial analyst in 2026 might spend 20% of their time on tasks that consumed 80% of their time in 2023, with AI handling data processing while the human focuses on interpretation and strategy.
