We had a fantastic morning at our co-hosted 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩𝘤𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘓𝘦𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘴 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬𝘧𝘢𝘴𝘵 with Peter Birch, Talking HealthTech! We like to thank all health and digital leaders who joined us in Melbourne for such an engaging and insightful conversation. From large-scale hospital transformation and interoperability challenges, to the realities of “doing more with less” in healthcare, the discussion highlighted both the need for focus to remain on what problems are to be solved, what outcomes are to be achieved as well as some of the complexity of digital health delivery. A special thank you to our exceptional panellists including Richard Taggart (CEO eHealth NSW and CIO NSW Health), Jayne Barclay (National Director – Healthcare Platforms, St Vincent's Health Australia), Robin Mann (Chief Digital and Information Officer, Monash Health) and Emily Mailes (Executive VP, Australia and New Zealand – Optimum Healthcare IT) for sharing your candid perspectives and practical insights from the frontlines of healthcare transformation. Great questions from both Peter and the audience present about what it takes for care improvements to be realised through more connected systems. The breakfast will be shared as a dedicated video podcast soon, so stay tuned! #DigitalHealth #HealthcareInnovation #ConnectedCare

Healthcare runs on devices that don't speak the language of modern cloud infrastructure. Ultrasounds, PACS routers, vitals monitors, and biomedical interfaces communicate through one method: static IP addresses hard-coded into firmware. These devices rarely make headlines, but they keep hospitals running and assist in patient care every single day. The problem? When you move to the cloud, migrate between regions, or experience a regional failure, those IP addresses change. And when that happens, every static IP clinical device loses its ability to communicate. Someone has to physically walk around and reconfigure every device, sometimes hundreds of them, across multiple facilities. Healthcare cannot afford that level of outage. So we built a solution the cloud hadn't fully solved: a true multi-region floating IP architecture for healthcare devices. The breakthrough came from an October 2023 AWS networking enhancement that barely drew attention outside deep cloud engineering circles. EC2 instances could now attach ENIs from multiple VPCs. It wasn't marketed as a healthcare feature. But for us, it was the missing piece. We could finally build a floating IP that survives a region dying. How is healthcare technology management evolving, and what does that mean for organizations navigating an increasingly complex care environment? In this episode of Visionary Voices, we sit down with Carol Davis-Smith, CCE FACCE AAMIF and Matt Baretich, P.E., Ph.D. to explore the transformation of HTM from a compliance-focused function to a strategic partner driving operational and clinical outcomes. The conversation covers how HTM teams were traditionally measured versus how they deliver value today. Carol and Matt discuss the growing importance of data in decision-making, the challenges of turning metrics into actionable insights, and why focusing on people and skills matters as much as technology itself. Looking ahead, they share perspectives on what will shape HTM over the next decade, including standardization across care settings, vendor management strategies, and the continued alignment between technology performance and patient outcomes. If you're a healthcare leader responsible for technology management, operations, or clinical engineering, this episode offers practical frameworks for building more strategic, data-driven HTM programs.
