  • NEWS RELEASE: Oakland Homelessness Falls Nearly 20 Percent; Unsheltered Population Drops by More Than 960 People 2026 Point-in-Time Count shows the largest year-over-year decline in unsheltered homelessness in recent city history, and a reduction in Oakland's share of the county's total homeless population. The 2026 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count released today by the Alameda County Housing and Health Department found that homelessness in Oakland has declined 19.6 percent since 2024, with the number of people sleeping outside, in vehicles, or in other places not meant for human habitation falling from 3,659 to 2,695 — a 26 percent decrease and a reduction of nearly 1,000 people as measured on a single night.

  • On May 12, the City of Oakland participated in Golden Eagle 2026, a Bay Area‑wide exercise that strengthens coordination across jurisdictions for high‑impact emergencies.   • Happy Bike Month, Oakland! 🚲 Oakland’s Bicyclist & Pedestrian Advisory Commission (BPAC) is one of the best places to learn what’s coming next for our streets, sidewalks, and bikeways. BPAC is a community-led group that advises the City Council on projects and programs that make it safer and easier to walk, roll, and bike in Oakland. At BPAC meetings, you can: - Hear about upcoming bike and pedestrian projects in your neighborhood - Learn how decisions are made about street safety and design - Share your experiences and priorities directly with commissioners and City staff - Stay informed about broader transportation issues across the city Meetings are held on the third Thursday of every month at 6:00 p.m., and you can join in person or online, making it easy to participate however works best for you.
