Today we celebrated the opening of the first 880 all-affordable homes at Willets Point Commons and broke ground on Building 3, which will deliver an additional 220 units of affordable senior housing to the neighborhood. NYCEDC, alongside Queens Development Group (QDG) — a joint venture between Related Companies and Sterling Equities — NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development and NYC Housing Development Corporation , worked together to turn a long-held vision for Willets Point into affordable housing, green space, and community for New Yorkers. The groundbreaking on Building 3 marks the start of the final chapter of Phase 1. In total, Phase 1 will bring 1,100 affordable homes to Queens. Phase 2 will bring 1,400 more affordable homes, bringing Willets Point to 2,500 all-affordable homes total — the largest affordable housing development in New York City in 40 years. Phase 2 will also deliver a new public school, 150,000+ sq ft of open space, spaces for local businesses, and Etihad Park, NYC’s first soccer-specific, all-electric stadium and future home of NYCFC, making Willets Point a thriving new neighborhood for all New Yorkers. 🍎 Today, N.Y.C. Groceries is two steps closer to delivering affordable food for every New Yorker. Alongside Mayor Mamdani, we’re thrilled to announce The Peninsula in the Bronx as the second site for NYC’s municipal grocery stores, a historic win for Hunts Point! We’ve also officially launched the N.Y.C. Groceries Sites Portal, where property owners across Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island can submit their own site/s for consideration while we continue identifying grocery store locations in the remaining boroughs.
