Today, we celebrate Earth Day.🌎 At Novonesis, our sustainability ambition is to leave a positive impact on people and the planet in everything we do. “Caring for the planet is part of our purpose and engrained in what we sell and how we operate. We take responsibility for reducing our impact on nature and we act thoughtfully in the communities where we have a footprint. Earth Day is a great opportunity to consider the role that each of us play as consumers and how we build a better and more resilient company,” says Thomas Bomhoff, Vice President, Global Sustainability & External Engagement.    For this occasion, we're sharing examples of how our colleagues around the world are taking local action to protect nature, strengthen communities, and making a positive difference for Earth Day and beyond.❤️   In Ottawa, Canada, our colleagues will be planting in their site garden, extending it with a pollinator section, and have partnered with a local organization to donate freshly grown produce to food banks and school lunch programs around the city.     At our Araucária site in Brazil, we have been donating biomass to farmers across the Curitiba Metropolitan Region for more than 30 years. More than 300 rural producers have benefited from the nutrient-rich biomass which supports soil fertility, reduces the need for chemical fertilizers, and can increase crop productivity.   In Patalganga, India, we have supported more than 3,000 people in local communities gain access to clean drinking water through initiatives that restore and improve water availability.     In our annual report, you can find more info on our sustainability ambitions and achievements in the past year: https://lnkd.in/dzrmqpVy   #EarthDay #climateaction #biosolutions #novonesis

Meet Renata, plant protector and application technician in Brazil 🌱 Our colleague Renata Comparoni shows current and potential customers the power of Plant Health Biosolutions and brings clear analysis demonstrating how biosolutions can strengthen their crops. She has been working at Novonesis for about six and a half years, working out of our Scientific Support Laboratory in Valinhos, Brazil.🙌🇧🇷 "Working with biological control for plant health is something that I love, I think it's magical to see how our Bacillus strains form biofilms and protect the roots against nematodes. I'm very proud when our analyses prove the impact of our products, and when we see the positive benefits we generate in agriculture as well as animal nutrition. I'm passionate about working at Novonesis with our purpose of taking care of the environment and the health of the planet and people. This mission motivates me every day — to contribute to leaving a healthier world for my children," she says. She describes what her typical daily work looks like: "In the lab, we receive questions and requests from the field, and we carry out the necessary analyses to offer all technical support to our current and potential customers. I perform analysis of seeds and concentrated products, compatibility tests between our products and agrochemicals and soybean seed treatments, especially at the beginning of the harvest. The results allow us to demonstrate to customers the activity and lasting effects of our strains in the field, correlating with the formation of protective biofilms in the rhizosphere. This biofilm contributes to the health of the plant, making it difficult for nematodes to penetrate and improving root development." Nordic policymakers gathered at Novonesis discussing biosolutions and the future of food 🙌 Earlier this week at our site in Hørsholm, Denmark, we had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from the Executive Committee to the Nordic Council of Ministers to Novonesis, together with the Danish Ministry for Food, Agriculture and Fisheries. The visit featured many of our expert colleagues sharing perspectives on how we discover enzymes and develop biosolutions, how our food cultures are applied in dairy products, as well as the power of fermentation. 🌱      We also had an engaging discussion on how biosolutions can contribute to healthy living, and how this perspective could be more systematically reflected in future food policy. A growing body of evidence points to the importance of the food–microbiome–health axis. Did you know that Novonesis provides dairy cultures for 50% of the world's cheeses and yoghurts? We just expanded our production capacity further to accommodate growing demand for our biosolutions. 🙌 Last week, our colleagues marked the official inauguration of a new freeze-dried packaging facility at our site in Avedøre, Denmark, outside Copenhagen. More than 500 colleagues work at this site, which includes the world's largest -55°C freezer and covers half the global need for dairy cultures for products such as cheese and yoghurt. 🌎 Anders Lund, COO, attended the inauguration and shared his thoughts: "As global demand for our biosolutions continues to grow, this inauguration marks the completion of a strategically important expansion project which more than doubles our freeze-dried culture packaging capacity. An important step in our continued efforts to serve even more Food Culture and Human Health customers around the world. The expanded packaging facility enables faster time-to-market and even more cost-effective growth. We’re expanding our global production footprint to cater for the increasing demand for biosolutions 🌱 We’re pleased to share that we have acquired a production site in Rayong, Thailand, strengthening our supply network and bringing us closer to customers in a fast-growing region. 🙌 Emerging markets already account for one third of our business and are expected to grow faster than developed markets, and expanding our footprint in Asia is a key part of our GROW strategy towards 2030. The facility will be integrated into our global multipurpose production setup, enabling us to flexibly supply both local and global markets with greater speed and resilience. Circular thinking opens bioenergy opportunities Brazilian bioenergy pioneer FERMAP built a circular farm that strengthens their bottom line and powers a climate-ready economy. In the video, CEO Fernando Pozzobon explains how Fermap found a way to connect every part of their operation: Corn becomes ethanol and animal feed, cattle waste turns into biogas and what’s left over goes right back to the fields to enrich the soil naturally. Nothing is wasted and everything works together. Today, Fermap runs seven sites and supports 400 local jobs. The farm supplies feed and other essentials to neighbors, helping spread sustainable practices across the region. With international certifications and a focus on earning carbon credits, Fermap shows what’s possible when biosolutions and a circular mindset come together – helping Brazil’s economy grow stronger and ready for the future. Colleagues coming together for a challenge 🙌 For this year's North Coast Ultra race, more than 220 of our colleagues gathered to run or walk in the stunning scenery around the forests and beaches in Northern Zealand, Denmark. The event offered a wide range of races, going from a 2K run for kids to a 15 kilometer walking route as well as a 50 kilometer ultra run for the most ambitious runners, so there was a suitable challenge for everyone. For the third year in a row, Novonesis is recognized as the top innovation company in Denmark.🥳 According to the European Patent Office, Novonesis had a total of 178 patent filings in 2025, highest among all Danish companies.🌱 Our CEO Ester Baiget spoke to Børsen on this topic:  "Novonesis has a total of 10,000 patents, demonstrating the strength of our biosolutions portfolio and the science behind it. Patents protect our unique solutions and enable us to stand out in the market. Of course, they only really shine when they are converted into growth, product launches and strong relations with our customers," she said.  We're proud that our colleagues contributed to so many patent applications while launching new biosolutions in the past year.🙌 With these patent filings, Denmark was placed 4th overall in Europe on patent applications per capita. Advancing biosolutions and enzyme innovation in Japan 🌱 Recently, our colleagues in Japan took part in the JSBBA 2026 Annual Meeting at Kyoto Doshisha University, continuing our more than 50 year commitment to advancing biosolutions in Japan. 🇯🇵 Our team hosted a seminar and presented our latest biosolutions for crop and pasture production, as well as sustainable plastics. We were also honored to take part in a symposium on biomass saccharification enzymes, bringing together key industry players to discuss new developments and industrial applications for this technology. For over half a century, Novonesis in Japan has collaborated closely with global research teams, production sites, and partners across Japanese industry and academia. Thank you to all participants for the engaging discussions, and to our team members for showcasing real-world examples of how enzyme and microbial solutions can unlock new opportunities to better our world with biology. 🙌 #biosolutions #science #research #enzymes #innovation
