We're still catching up from a great week of meetings all over the Northwest! On May 11th, we were proud to participate in U.S. Rep. Dan Newhouse's Central Washington Energy Summit where we joined several community leaders to discuss the value of our affordable, reliable, clean hydropower. Special thanks to our fellow panelists Washington Association of Wheat Growers' Michelle Hennings, Pacific Northwest Waterways Association's Neil Maunu, and Public Power Council's Scott Simms as well as other partners, including Northwest Public Power Association's Kurt Miller, and WASHINGTON RURAL ELECTRIC COOPERATIVE ASSOCIATION's @Shari Nelson. Our staff also attended the christening of the American Encore at the Port Of Lewiston–celebrating the newest addition to the American Cruise Lines Columbia/Snake River fleet (pictured Kristin Meira and VICTOR VALERIO-MARIN). At the same time, we were covering the Northwest Power & Conservation Council's monthly meeting in Pendleton, Oregon. Finally, last Saturday we got to hang out and enjoy some fresh air at the Return to the River Salmon Festival in Walla Walla, Washington.

In partnership with the Idaho Consumer-Owned Utilities Association, we're excited to share this recently published op-ed in the Idaho Statesman. At a time when energy #affordability and #reliability are being significantly challenged, reducing the output of our #hydropower system is a step in the wrong direction for Idaho and the rest of the Northwest. https://lnkd.in/g-ZjQp7e

Representing the Eastern end of Marine Highway M-84, Port Of Lewiston's Scott Corbitt is an expert and a leader on lower Snake River dam issues and river navigation. This interview provides an excellent overview of the challenges and consequences presented by the recent court ruling on hydropower operations.
Those who rely on the Port of Lewiston for their livelihoods are trying to understand a 2026 order that came from a federal Oregon judge to increase water over the dams and lower water levels in some areas. Scott Corbitt, General Manager of the Port of Lewiston, wants to see both fish and industry succeed on the Lower Columbia River Basin. In this interview, he explains how the judge’s order could affect energy, barging, fish, agriculture, air quality, and farmers' ability to stay in business.

With so many energy challenges in the Northwest's future, many organizations are digging in deep to understand what it will to take to meet the need. The Association of Washington Business recently produced their Energy Solutions Summit Report, which makes a compelling case for preserving our multi-beneficial hydropower system through the coming decades. "Washington’s clean, renewable hydropower has served as the foundation for our economy by delivering low-cost electricity that has provided a critical competitive advantage over other states and regions. Preserving and maintaining this historic advantage is paramount for Washington’s energy future." Read the full report below! https://lnkd.in/gA_XzJyP

NEW #HYDROPOWER IN THE NORTHWEST? 🤔 We recently shared the great news from our friends at Rye Development, as they received a 40-year license from FERC to begin construction on the Goldendale Energy Storage Project. It was only fitting that we invited our first outside guest, Erik Steimle, CEP, back to Dam! nearly three years later to share more details on the project and what this new pumped storage hydro will bring to the region. Give it a listen below on Spotify (or search for Dam! on your favorite listening platform): https://lnkd.in/gXDw35ZG

We're proud to stand amongst the broad coalition of organizations and stakeholders seeking a collaborative path towards solving the complex challenges our region faces.
As the February 6 U.S. District Court date approaches on the future of Columbia River System operations, a diverse coalition of Northwest utilities, ports, navigation supporters, farmers, irrigation users, and businesses is prepared to defend our region’s clean, reliable hydropower system in court, while continuing to urge "Collaboration Over Litigation." We believe the best outcomes come from solutions that are lawful, science-based, and durable, while advancing salmon recovery while protecting affordable power, navigation, and economic stability across the Northwest. Our coalition remains committed to pursuing a negotiated path forward that brings certainty and stability to the region. Please read the our press release: https://lnkd.in/g-F4BAHd
