Happy Birthday to Richard Strauss, a composer and conductor with a rich history with the NY Phil. In 1884, the NY Phil premiered the Symphony No. 2 by the then 20-year-old, the first time his music was ever performed in the United States. In addition to giving countless performances of Strauss’s beloved tone poems and more over more than a century, the Orchestra performed under his baton five times. Visit https://lnkd.in/gDn2rduq to learn more about our 2025-26 programs featuring works by Strauss, including Louis Langree conducting Strauss and Mozart, Manfred Honeck conducting his own arrangement of Strauss's “Elektra” Suite, and Barbara Hannigan conducting “Metamorphosen” in her NY Phil conducting debut!
