Commissioner Laux spent time in the Bogota Public School District, visiting Lillian M. Steen Elementary School and Bogota Jr./Sr. High School. The visit highlighted Bogota’s strong instructional practices, career preparation programs, and partnerships that expand college credit opportunities for students. An insightful look at student success in Keyport! Commissioner Laux, accompanied by NJDOE staff and local dignitaries, toured the district to observe the "Preschool to Professional" journey. The visit showcased foundations in early literacy, high-level literacy in practice among 5th-grade students, and advanced high school offerings like the Rising Stars Early College Academy and Computer Science labs. The Commissioner also saw firsthand how Keyport prioritizes student wellness including its therapy dog program.

As Teacher Appreciation Week comes to a close, we pause to say thank you to the educators who show up for students every day with dedication and heart. Watch Commissioner Laux’s message honoring the lasting impact of our teachers.

This week, New Jersey proudly celebrates Teacher Appreciation Week (May 4–8, 2026) — a moment to uplift the educators whose work strengthens our communities every day.
