Elon Musk could become the world’s first trillionaire, a milestone that underscores the extraordinary wealth the tech industry has amassed over three decades. That's thanks to SpaceX's confirmed plans to sell shares of its stock to the public for the first time, according to a securities filing. SpaceX’s IPO is expected to draw wide investor interest because of the company’s success in rockets and satellite-based internet — two areas where SpaceX has a wide lead over potential competitors.

A Tennessee school board member who hugged a teenage girl and called her “hot” at a public meeting last month has been charged with assault, court records show. The charge of assault (physical contact) stems from an incident on April 2, when Keith Ervin put his arm around the girl, a student member of the board, hugged her from the side and told her, “God, you’re hot.” Following public outcry, Ervin apologized for his actions. At an April 8 meeting, he said his calling the girl “hot” was intended to mean “she was on a roll” and had nothing to do with her appearance. Ervin did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment Tuesday night. Read more: nbcnews.to/4wH0PRN

When Annie Benjamin invested $99,000 in an annuity 10 years ago, she trusted the insurance company to provide her with retirement income. She also relied on the company’s regulator to ensure the insurer could meet its obligations. Benjamin’s trust in both was misplaced. PHL Variable Insurance Co., a private equity-owned life insurer, collapsed in 2024 and is heading for liquidation. Benjamin’s account is frozen, and 100,000 other PHL policyholders face a $2.2 billion shortfall, public documents show. nbcnews.to/4usF5Ys
