‼️Happening now‼️
More than 55,000 acres are burning across southeast Georgia.❤️🩹
Behind those numbers are families evacuating, communities destroyed, and shelters preparing for an influx of animals who are injured, lost, or without a place to go.
As the fires continue to spread, action is already underway.
Early this morning, Greater Good Charities coordinated an emergency flight to move nearly 60 shelter pets to safety from The Humane Society of South Coastal Georgia. These were not pets being separated from families, but animals who were already awaiting adoption before the fires began.
This transport creates critical kennel space for animals in crisis, while allowing their team to remain focused on helping their communities through this disaster.
From there, it became a team effort.
Alongside Cheatham County Animal Control, Humane Society of Dickson County, and Old Friends Senior Dog Sanctuary, our teams welcomed roughly 50 dogs and 10 cats to Tennessee.
At Nashville Humane, our priority is always the people and pets of Middle Tennessee and our state. That commitment never changes. But when disaster strikes, showing up for others is part of the work, too. So when the call came, we said yes, welcoming 10 dogs and 8 cats into our care this morning.
Because in moments like this, it’s not just about one shelter. It’s about communities supporting each other, so no one has to face disaster alone.
Thank you to Greater Good Charities for leading this mission, and to our community for making it possible for us to extend our impact when it matters most.
Our hearts are with everyone impacted by these wildfires.❤️
