You may know our work on The Bean, the Chicago flagship Apple Store, or the iconic Skydeck Chicago Ledge, but you may not know that MTH Industries didn’t begin as a single company — it was created from the merger of two of Chicago’s most historic companies, a legacy that was later strengthened by integrating two more specialist institutions. - Tyler & Hippach Glass Company — founded in 1886, known for pioneering architectural glass in Chicago's formative years. The ‘TH’ in MTH. - Midwest Iron Works — founded in 1938, recognized for its precision structural metalwork across the region. The ‘M’ in MTH. - Illinois Bronze Works — founded in 1923, integrating with MTH to bring a renowned ornamental bronze fabrication and metal artistry capability. - Midwest Glass Company — founded in 1930, whose integration marked the advent of dedicated Building Services and a comprehensive glazing practice. Over the decades, from its foundation and subsequent integrations, MTH Industries evolved into a unified, full-service architectural metal, glass, and restoration partner. Today, MTH continues to advance the work started over a century ago — delivering projects with the same integrity, precision, and long-term durability that shaped our beginnings. Our past fuels our progress. Our legacy shapes our future. See how at https://lnkd.in/ehmGPtQ. #ChicagoConstruction #BuildingLegacy #ConstructionHistory #ArchitecturalMetal #HistoricRestoration

Architectural glass is no longer just a material—it’s a performance system. Once defined primarily by transparency and aesthetics, glass now plays a critical role in how buildings actually perform. In dense urban environments like Chicago, and especially in adaptive reuse projects, glazing must do far more than “fit the opening.” It has to actively contribute to energy efficiency, acoustic control, thermal performance, and code compliance—often within historic or highly constrained conditions. High-performance glazing today must account for: - Energy loss through aging masonry envelopes - Acoustic demands in residential conversions - Thermal bridging in mixed-material assemblies - Irregular, non-repetitive historic openings - Long-term interaction with structural movement and metal systems In this context, glass cannot be treated as a standalone product. It functions as part of an integrated building envelope system—interacting with framing, substrate, and environment over time. The shift happening across the industry is clear: from product selection to performance engineering. For builders, fabricators, and designers alike, success is increasingly measured not by what is installed, but by how that system performs for decades after installation. At MTH Industries, that perspective shapes every project we take on. #ChicagoArchitecture #ChicagoConstruction #Leadership #BuildingPerformance #Glass

Every day on the job site, there’s a shared responsibility that goes beyond schedule and scope of work: making sure everyone gets home safely. This week is National Work Zone Awareness Week, and it’s a timely reminder for everyone in construction, infrastructure, and adjacent industries to stay sharp about safety in and around active work zones. At MTH Industries, much of our work across Chicago involves complex environments. Working alongside other trades, we’re often operating in spaces where construction meets public movement. That overlap is where awareness matters most. A few core principles we reinforce on every project (and you should, too): • Slow down and stay alert in and around active work zones—conditions change fast • Respect traffic control measures, signage, and flaggers—they’re there to protect everyone on site • Maintain clear communication between trades, GC teams, and delivery crews • Plan material staging and lifts with visibility and public safety in mind • Treat every job site boundary as a shared safety perimeter, not a suggestion Construction is collaborative by nature, but safety only works when it’s consistent across every crew, every shift, every role. Stay safe, Chicago! #NWZAW #WorkZoneSafety #ConstructionSafety #ChicagoConstruction #JobsiteSafety

At MTH Industries, we believe that true leadership is earned through mastery and sustained through integrity. Today, we are proud to honor the career of Mike Swanberg—a journey that represents the very best of our 100+ year history. Mike’s legacy began on the shop floor, sweeping floors and learning the value of hard work under his father’s guidance. Over decades, he thoroughly mastered the steel business from the ground up, navigating the Midwest Iron Works merger and learning hand-in-hand with industry legends like Bruno Liska and Jerry Braun. His rise to COO was a testament to his technical ability and success in managing some of our most complex projects. When the 2009 economic downturn challenged our industry, Mike answered the call. Returning as President after a brief sabbatical, he returned MTH to profitability within a single year and led a decade of sustained growth. Beyond the balance sheet, Mike’s heart has always been with the people who build Chicago. As a Fiduciary managing over $1B in Union Retirement Funds and a champion for the Union Health and Wellness Centers, he ensured our members received medicine at no cost. Now serving as Chairman Emeritus, Mike continues to share his wisdom as a counselor and mentor. Mike, we offer our deepest gratitude for your years of service, your dedication to our employees, and your incredible grace. Thank you for all that you’ve done, and all you continue to do for MTH! #MTHIndustries #ConstructionLeadership #UnionStrong #Legacy #BuildingChicago

The conversation around sustainability in 2026 has officially moved past operational carbon to embodied carbon. For the glass and metal industry, the next frontier isn’t just energy-efficient windows—it’s the Circular Economy. As we look at the lifecycle of urban high-rises, the question is: can our materials be reclaimed, not just recycled? Aluminum is the gold standard here, offering infinite recyclability without losing structural integrity. But the challenge lies in the "Design for Disassembly" (DfD) movement. We need to rethink how we bond glass to metal frames today so that they can be easily separated and reused 50 years from now. True leadership in construction means building for the present while planning for the building’s eventual retirement. Is our industry ready to treat every facade as a material bank for the future? #Sustainability #CircularEconomy #FacadeEngineering #FutureOfConstruction #EmbodiedCarbon
