"Our goal is to help women get their treatment needs met and optimized for better outcomes and improved quality of life for themselves and generations to come." says Dr. Kristina Reigstad, PsyD, LP, of the M Health Fairview Women's Wellbeing Program she co-directs.
Maternal mental health is one of the most pressing health needs in Minnesota, touching every stage of a woman's reproductive journey. According to the Minnesota Maternal Mortality Report, 95% of maternal deaths are preventable. Yet stigma, limited access to care, and structural barriers like paid leave continue to stand in the way.
The Women's Wellbeing Program is working to change that. Led by our M Physicians reproductive psychiatrist Dr. Tolu Odebunmi and co-founded by M Physicians psychologists Dr. Reigstad and Colleen Doyle, PhD, the program provides mental health screenings, diagnostic assessments, and ongoing care for patients before, during, and after pregnancy, as well as through other major reproductive milestones like menopause.
One of the biggest barriers our providers work to overcome? Stigma.
The fear of being judged, or of consequences for speaking up, keeps too many people from seeking the help they need. Because Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) are almost always treatable, the team meets patients where they are, instills hope for recovery, and is committed to breaking that cycle, helping every patient build a happy, healthy life ahead.
