Kindness Matters. The way people communicate with each other matters. The words. The tone. The posture. Whether the person across from you actually sees you in the moment. I think about this a lot. A few moments in my career taught me why. I was earlier in my career, beginning to move into the strategic side of communications work. We were in the middle of a crisis assignment for an aggressive corporate leadership team. The stakes were high, the situation was new to me, and I was in a lead role on our team. At one point, I felt the pressure land all at once. My boss, who was also my mentor, could see it. She sat down. Looked me directly in the eyes. And said, softly: "Trust yourself. I do." I've never forgotten it. The words, The tone, The way she sat down before she said them. That moment is part of why I do this work. I run an agency that helps corporate communications teams make strategic impact, and most of what we do operates at the level of strategy, narrative, and craft. But underneath all of it is something simpler: the way people speak to each other matters. Not just for performance, or alignment, or engagement scores. For how it feels to be on the other end of it. The best corporate communication is strategic and human at the same time. It moves the work forward, and it leaves people feeling like the person on the other side of the message actually gets it.
