About us
The Mission Investment Fund (MIF), a financial ministry of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), supports the establishment and growth of congregations and other church-affiliated ministries by providing financing for building projects. MIF also offers socially responsible investment products to both individuals and ministries, the proceeds of which fund the loan program and provide investors with financial returns. The ELCA Federal Credit Union (FCU), a financial ministry partner of the Mission Investment Fund, offers financial products and services to members, pastors, congregations, synods, affiliated ministries, and their employees. The portfolio of products includes low-cost loans, deposit accounts, credit cards, and other solutions within a not-for-profit, cooperative structure. When a privately run day-care announced it was leaving Minneapolis’ Lind-Bohanon neighborhood, families were suddenly faced with losing reliable, local childcare. Gethsemane Lutheran Church decided they wouldn’t let that happen. With the community's input, the congregation decided to renovate and reopen the former daycare space. But finding financing was a challenge. After being turned down twice by traditional lenders, they connected with the Mission Investment Fund (MIF). MIF recognized the impact this ministry could have and partnered with Gethsemane to realize their vision. Today, the space is open once again, providing childcare and job opportunities for local families. Last week, our team spent the day at 360 Youth Services in Aurora, IL, organizing pantry supplies and putting together care packages for youth in their housing program. 360 Youth Services operates in partnership with Lutheran Child and Family Services of Illinois (LCFS) to provide substance use prevention education, counseling, and housing for young people in need, and we’re honored to support their incredible mission.
