Our final intern spotlight is for Alexander S., who joined us in January as an Engineering Physics Intern. In his four months at Marathon, Alex built Plasma Centrifuge and Neutronics data analysis tools that streamlined data access, increasing the velocity of testing and research for both teams. In his words: "Marathon Fusion helped me leverage my skills in a novel field, giving me the opportunity to solve difficult problems and own their solutions!".

In today's intern spotlight is Kai Asaoka. Kai joined us in January as a Research Engineering Intern. During his internship, Kai proposed and built from scratch a Python framework to replace our previous LabVIEW-based controls setup. As Marathon grows, our controls systems will need to scale with us. Kai recognized this early, pitched his idea to the team, and turned it into a working system. Engineers can now spin up new test stations faster and more reliably. Kai says: "Working at Marathon let me experiment and develop in ways I hadn't been able to elsewhere. The fluidity of a startup is what gave me the room to propose and pursue my own project. The scope of what I worked on was far larger than in a traditional internship; I really felt as though I was a project lead, a rare experience for an intern. Thank you to everyone at Marathon for a fantastic internship!" Thanks for your work, Kai!

"Danielle, the foundation has lost their minds." It's been a wild 3 years (and 3 checks into Marathon Fusion!) with the 1517 team. First check into Vitalik (Ethereum) Chris Olah (Anthropic) and many many more to come. Great writeup from Dan G. on some of my favorite investors. https://lnkd.in/gcX3EZm3

At Marathon Fusion, our interns are trusted with real ownership. This week, we're highlighting our spring interns and their contributions to Marathon. Emma Zoccoli joined us in January as an Engineering Research Intern. Over the past four months, she built neutronics modeling tools that anchor our radioisotopes roadmap and helped to coordinate early testing and design. In her words: "Marathon Fusion helped me find the intersection of what I'm good at and what I care about, and then allowed me to take full ownership of a project in this space." Thank you, Emma, for all your hard work!

What do the former Administrator of NASA and former Secretary of the Air Force have in common? A passion for fusion energy! ⚛️ Honored to be speaking with Dan Goldin and Frank Kendall in Texas alongside Commonwealth Fusion co-founder Dan Brunner and our new friends Reihan Salam and Christopher Britton!

Our CTO Adam Rutkowski has just been awarded a prestigious Grainger Foundation award from the National Academy of Engineering. There are tremendous opportunities in optimizations of fusion blanket design and we're excited to see this project move forward.
Exciting news from the NAE! We’re pleased to announce this year’s recipients of the Grainger Foundation Frontiers of Engineering (FOE) Grants. These $30,000 grants support innovative interdisciplinary research inspired by the Grainger Foundation U.S. FOE Symposium. Ritu Raman (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) and Flavia Vitale (University of Pennsylvania) have received a Grainger Grant for their project, “Leveraging Bioelectronics for 4D Tissue Engineering,” which will help researchers more precisely control and study how lab-grown tissues function. Ionut Farcas (Virginia Tech) and Adam Rutkowski (Marathon Fusion) have received a Grainger Grant for their project, “Accelerated Neutronics Optimization of Fusion Reactor Blankets Using Reduced and Multi-Fidelity Models,” supporting the development of more efficient, next-generation fusion power systems. 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐨𝐨𝐧 𝐢𝐧 𝐅𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧! Today, during his plenary remarks at #ARPAE26, Director Conner Prochaska announced a $135M commitment to further develop and commercialize fusion technologies. “The question is no longer whether fusion is possible. The question is how fast we get fusion-generated power on the grid, and whether America leads that achievement," said 𝐃𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐬𝐤𝐚. Deployed over the next 18 months, this will constitute the largest concentrated investment in fusion technology in the agency’s history. This investment accelerates momentum from a decade of ARPA-E’s stewardship of early-stage, high risk technologies across the fusion ecosystem. Don’t miss 𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝑰𝒏𝒗𝒆𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒔 𝑨𝒓𝒆 𝑭𝒖𝒏𝒅𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑭𝒖𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏 happening now in California 8 with Sam Wurzel, Bruce Brown, Chris Good, Malcolm Handley, and Matt Trevithick!
