May is Speech-Language-Hearing Month, and Life Care is shining a special light on the Speech Therapists who serve our residents as they recover from illness, injury, or disease. 🧠🥣 🔠 Speech Therapists treat speech disorders, swallowing disorders, cognition and problem-solving issues, memory deficits, language difficulties, and more. 📸 Pictured below is Maggie Velasquez, Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) at Life Care Center of Orlando, FL. Through dysphagia treatment, she recently helped patient Edward (also pictured) go from receiving nutrition through a feeding tube to eating regular food and thin liquids again. To celebrate his achievement, she provided his favorite meal: Popeye's fried chicken! Maggie and others like her around the country are making a real difference in our residents' and patients' lives. 79 Years of Service in Muncie, Indiana! 🎉 🌟 Last night, The Woodlands - A Life Care Center hosted its 79th Anniversary Celebration by inviting friends and neighbors to the community for food trucks, vendor booths, and live music! Some history about the skilled nursing and rehabilitation center: 🏠 In 1947, two Nurses opened a home in downtown Muncie to care for the elderly. These nurses named the building The Woodlands, and they continued caring for seniors into the 1970s, when they decided to begin looking for just the right buyer. Along came Life Care Centers of America, and to these Nurses, the Life Care was just what they wanted in a new owner.
