As I reflect on the end of our first semester, I am grateful for this season of rest and recovery. While nothing about the semester was easy, it was deeply rewarding. Seasons of real growth are especially demanding, yet the reward is always greater than the cost.
I am grateful for all that Cherokee Classical Academy has accomplished in our founding semester:
1. A strong foundation in literacy and numeracy.
Initial benchmark assessments show encouraging academic growth and the establishment of a solid foundation upon which future learning will build.
2. A school culture rooted in virtue and character formation.
We have implemented a schoolwide behavior system grounded in shared expectations, reinforcing both academic excellence and moral formation.
3. Meaningful faculty feedback and responsiveness.
Our 90-day internal pulse survey revealed that despite the very real challenges of launching a new school, our faculty believes in the mission and direction of CCA. Action steps from this feedback have already been implemented or are actively underway.
4. The development of a collaborative leadership structure.
We are in the process of appointing grade-level leads and a mentor teacher, launched peer shadowing and coaching days across grade levels, and intentionally cultivating a culture of communication, collaboration, and faculty leadership.
5. Strong community engagement and culture formation.
We experienced high levels of family engagement through Leadership Coffees, Zoom calls, and major events—including over 800 attendees at our fall community event and more than 1,000 guests at our Fine Arts Night and Winter Concert. We are deeply grateful to our families for their partnership, trust, and support.
6. A moment of national recognition.
Hosting the Second Lady of the United States was a profound honor—one we will forever treasure as part of CCA’s founding story.
We have much to learn and many opportunities to grow. We have made mistakes, as any school does. Yet we remain steadfast in the pursuit of our mission and deeply hopeful as we look ahead to the second semester.
